I haven't heard anything new about the DQ. I was wondering if anyone else had.
Thanks
I'm very sure if there is any news, it'll show up here automatically 🙂
Okay! Thank you. I haven't heard anything since the big excitement a while ago and became somewhat anxious.
gossip from relatives
Hi - some of my father's relatives visited the boat the second week of June and emailed the following:
"It wasn't crowded, but there were people there. The staff showed us some rooms. . . . The staff member told us that new owners have plans to restore the ship and get her on the Ohio River by next June."
I emailed back to ask for more information and she said:
"I don't have any authoritative information to send you. The young man showing us the state rooms was chatting. I got the impression that the owners were new and government approvals were requested."
This is just hearsay, but my policy at this point is to visualize and pray for the best. I am trying to make my mind ready to accept the good news when it comes. All along, I have believed that the Delta Queen would go back into service.
For those of you who believe in the afterlife and transmissions from deceased relatives: In 2008, I received an affirmative message from Betty Blake and my father in heaven. They said the Delta Queen will run again on the Mississippi River.
P.S. to gossip
Hi again - when my father's relatives contacted me and we had that conversation, I took it to mean that someone wanted to buy it. Maybe that person told someone that he had already bought it, or the deal was in the bag. Anyway, one person tells another, and pretty soon, someone is telling a tourist. It may have been premature, is what I am saying. But that was what I last heard. And I labeled the post with the disclaimer "gossip," so that's really all it is. If I hear any real news--besides gossip and messages from the beyond--I will post it.
That's nice to hear! Thank you so much for the update.

This is a huge milestone folks! This is further along than the exemption ever made it before. Remember in 2008 it was refused to be let out of committee. This time it made it through with almost unanimous support.
Now we wait for the vote to get put on the calendar and hope our elected officials pass the bill. I'm optimistic it will pass. It's not too late to call yor representative a let them know you would like them to vote YAY for HR 1961!
Also a HUGE thanks for Congressman Chabot for continuing to carry the flag for the DQ!
CALL NOW!! From reading all this, it could happen very soon!! At least email your representatives!
Here's an email I sent to all my contacts, including the Yahoo Groups I belong too--feel free to copy or modify!
We have a chance to bring the Delta Queen steamboat back to the American
Inland Waterways--all by private funding (no taxpayer dollars, no handout)
if we can get her exemption to the Safety for Ships at SEA law passed. The
bill has 22 bipartisan co-sponsors and has passed out of committee. It is
ready for a vote on the floor of the house. Please email your Federal
Representative right way to encourage them to vote in favor of HR 1961.
To find your rep's email, go to: congress.gov
Here's a suggested email text, feel free to make up your own too:
Dear Congress person ______,
Please vote for passage of HR 1961, allowing the Delta Queen Steamboat to
operate again, providing jobs in an economically depressed area, and an
economic boost to the communities where she stops; all at no cost to the
American Taxpayers. In addition, this will keep alive an important piece of
our American Heritage.
Thank you,
__________
Thank you so much!!
Sincerely,
Linda & David Dewey
PS We'll be back when the Senate bill needs your support!
COI question
With the House and Senate bills to reauthorize the exemption moving forward, what does this mean about the DQ being granted a COI, should the bill become law? The bill's wording is short and only references the extension of the exemption that had expired. What will it take to get the COI and will that be a significant challenge?
Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke seeks to give Delta Queen the boot
Make sure you vote "Yes" to the poll on the right of the same page as this article is on titled "should the Delta Queen be allowed to stay?". Unless someone knows something I don't as to if we shouldn't because of it possibly effecting any decisions that would benefit the Delta Queen, but I certainly can't think of any.

I just voted "yes" and was pleasantly surprised at the percentage of yes votes. Will be interesting to see if this Mayor is able to back down.
John Yarmuth, House Representative sure hasn't been able to. His office doesn't return calls I've been making for months. Finally some received a letter from his office yesterday stating his "safety" concern. I only hope those in Louisville will remember his stance when the next election comes around.
I just voted yes
It is sad. It seems the new leaders in Chattanooga are not for history or saving it. They are very good at keeping the public in the dark. They hide the rising crime in the city to where it looks like a safe place. It isn't and is getting worse. I hope the bill gets passed quickly, so she can get back to running the rivers.
