Greetings all,
I thought you might like to know that on the 14th at approximately 0600 the Steamer American Queen will be underway on her own for the first time since she was laid up. Our time in Sulphur has come to an end and we are putting another major milestone behind us and taking a big step to getting her back to work. She looks great! The paint job turned out wonderful and there is a whole lot of sprucing up going on inside. We are headed to Morgan City for dry dock next and a credit hull exam with the Coast Guard. As soon as we are done there we will be moving up to New Orleans for the final clean up and training of our new steamboat crew. See you soon!
Moving
Where's the pics and videos. Are they on the GASC website? Is she moving paddlewheel and z-drives or just z-drives. Enquiring minds want to know. Details, Details...
Thanks for the update
Thanks for the update which is certainly good news here during our first winter storm. The thought of the AQ steaming again melts the frigid temps and the 5 inches of snow we got. I understand you and Capt. Jamieson were on the PARADICE together in East Peoria, so you are well accustomed to this wintery blast stuff. Have a good southern trip from Sulphur to Morgan City.
Thanks, Greg, for the exciting update. I know LOTS of people who are counting the days until the AQ comes steaming up the Ohio to Louisville -- and elsewhere!
That should be a sight to behold out in the Gulf.
Are we sure it's safe to take a flat bottomed boat out into those gulf swells?
AQ Photos
Based on a GASC photo posted by our friends at www.maritimematters.com, it appears AQ made the trip sans paddlewheel using Z drive.
Wesley
Just curious
So when, where, and how will the paddlewheel catch up with the boat?
Anybody know when the AQ is leaving New Orleans to go up to Memphis maybe anytime this month.

Matthew, the first cruise is a NOLA roundtrip and leaves April 13. The second cruise is NOLA to MEM and leaves April19, goes to Oak Alley, St. Francisville, Natchez, Vicksburg, Helena and arrives in MEM on April 27. Before she leaves MEM for the next cruise, she will be rechristened by our new AQ godmother, Priscilla Presley.
Will American Queen be visible on the AIS heading up the river passing Winona,MN North. and will she show up on the entire Mississippi.
