Hope y'all are sittin' down and not holding onto a full glass, or just swallowed some liquid refreshment!
WE ARE GONNA BE ON THE BOAT! The DQ of course! Cannot believe it, but couldn't resist--blame it on Bruno! He and Debbie will be there too. We've both got Sun Deck Bunk beds, but we are going to be there! Folks around here are wondering if I'm leaving to go live on the boat. . . . Hmmmm. . . .
So, anyone else going to be there May 17, Birmingham to Chattanooga? We're in 338, just knock--oh wait, we probably won't be IN the cabin, too much to do outside!
Hmm, 1:30 AM here, I'd better catch some zzzs!
Oh boy, oh boy, Hurk--Steamboatin'!!
(for those of you who might not recognize that phrase, it's from an A. C. Gilbert ad for their American Flyer trains--I just changed the last word! And, yes, I do have the trains, including my childhood ones.)
Steamcerely,

Yeah, yeah, yeah... blame it on me... Is your arm still hurting from where I almost twisted it off?

Yes, the Krause's were getting the shakes. But after telling all that we had nothing but empty pockets toward additional cruising this year, Deb finally convinced me that we did indeed have the money, she's very good at creative financing when it comes to the DQ. Very exciting. Two new rivers for us, three for the Dewey's. We'll be in 332, first time with a bunk room for us. We're REALLY looking forward to cruising with the Deweys again.

Four, count 'em, four weeks from today!

Give generously folks, doctors are working hard at finding a cure...

338

338 was my room of choice. That was the lowest priced category, which I had for all but probably 7 of my 41 DQ trips, and I was in 338 at least 15 times. I especially liked it for its location: I could sit out on deck and run in to get my tape recorder when the calliope started up; it was close to the stairs to avoid rain; there was the gentle vibration from the paddlewheel. And it seemed to be amenable to more storage space than other rooms in that category. Of course, that's the room Amy Carter had in 1979 as her parents were next door in 340. I've been in 332 also, and it doesn't distinguish itself in my memory. One problem with bunk bed rooms(unless the ac has been upgraded): the ac blows on the top bunk and so you've got a bi-level discussion as to whether to close or open the vent more. So if both of you are equally agile, the one who likes it cooler should opt for the top berth.

Color me green with envy. I would love to hop on board with all of ya'll But alas I have to wait for my turn. Talking about closets, We stayed on the Aq in a room for three and naturally my being the youngest I had the bunk. As I was trying to get down to use the bathroom in the middle of the night the ladder fell back and I ended up in the "Closet" needless to say my fellow happy ladies couldn't stop laughing long enough to see if I was OK. Oh sure, It's funny now. What would we do without these trips to look forward too. I know you all will have a grand time. Just be careful getting down from the top bunk

Wowziers, were staying in not only the Judy Patsch cabin, but Amy Carter's cabin! That's cool! Hmm, I'll probably have the top bunk, Linda doesn't like ladders, so it may litterally be cool for me! That works too, as she likes the accomodations warmer than I. (Ice-feet Dewey here!) Umm, TMI probably!
I will also check to see if they fixed the window in 333 yet! We'll also find out if they've painted the inside rings on the wheel white too. I still have some pics to post from the LAST trip--I can say that now!! YEEE-HAAA!
Y'all take care, I'll post later,
Steamcerely,
David D. & Linda too!

Jeesh, can't we get away from you guys? What took you so long? This is one we booked last year with DQSC and will be in #322. New rivers indeed!! But guess what? We're staying on, heading up to St. Louis, and will be moving to #337. Do I sense your skin turning green? If we old folks can maneuver in a bunk room I should think you young whippersnappers will have no problems.
Looking forward to seeing you all again.

I've been in 338...

Well...that time I had no choice as I was on a partial trip...

I prefer the Texas deck rooms myself...

I hope your enthusiasm never wanes away! I too was in the same situation for about 25 years until I received "word"!!!

Anyways...

Most of my 23 DQ trips were either on the cabin or texas decks...I don't recall anyone dancing above those rooms either!!!! If I was a wealthy person, and I'd ever decide to book a DQ trip again...I'd opt for the rear most Texas deck rooms or the 2 "A" (or what ever they are called this week) rooms at the rear of the Cabin deck...my favorites...

My one trip on the AQ was on the top deck, as I had a suite...was nice just for the sole fact I could see over the Louisiana levees being that much taller than the DQ...

You are "young", you'll learn!!!

I have been in 339 on the back of the sun deck. Let us say that it is great in the summer - the air conditioning works so well that they store fresh meat in the room. You also get a real different prospective on the caliopie (sp) - you hear the clicks of each key or electrical connection in the bath room, then hear the sound. I plan to be back there in October from Nashville to B'ham. Will bring my heavy coat to take my shower in : )

When I was Sun Deck maid, port side, on a sailing day, I noticed two women in one of the smaller rooms (closet) just laughing their heads off. I asked what was so funny. They cried, "It's sooo small!!!!!" But they stayed on. Can't remember, Judy, whether the port side rooms are even or odd numbered. It has obviously been way too long since I've been on the DQ. Way, way too long. Sigh.

Port is odd - my 338 was under the command of Sgt. Louise when you were on the port side. Louise checked my wastebasket for empty M&M wrappers and then chastised me for eating so much junk food. It only took another 20 years before I cleaned up my eating habits.

David: Maybe no one dancing on the ceiling, but at about dawn every morning SOMEBODY was stomping across our ceiling! Our best guess was that it was the person who put up all the US flags around the edge of the "roof" (if that is what it is called on a steamboat) 🙂 We did notice that all the flags were down after dark (good flag etiquette).

However, even with that, and the few other drawbacks I mentioned earlier, we'd still like to take another trip, and I think I liked the sun deck rooms the best (maybe we'll get a little larger closet next time).

David,
It sounds like you may need a referral to SBA ( Steam Boating Annomonus)
This addiction sounds much worse than booze, gambling, or other "recreational drugs"
Posted by Frank, (Sandys partner in crime) Sorry you wont be on the DQ departing Memphis this coming Friday. I would like to meet you, you sound like a very boring person......
Give me a break, two "passages" in less than three months...
Have a great one, and dont forget the kite.
Frank

I'm still pinching myself too. . .
And it's gonna take some time to recover from this--eBay, watch out, I gotta dig out stuff to sell (Like a Stanley Steamer engine, other odd old car stuff I've gathered up over the last 45 years or so).

PS Wish we could be there too!! If I ever won a lottery, etc. my "what are you going to do now?" answer would be, "Book a year on the DQ!!"
Take some kites with you and have a Wowziers good time!

You couldn't get much past Louise. At least you didn't fill ash trays with those those gag-a-maggot smelly cigaret butts. You'd probably be dead by now if you had. (That was my pet peeve.) The only thing worse was the pilot house spittoon.
