No direct connection to steamboats, but many of us use its website New Orleans, LA Local News, Breaking News, Sports & Weather - NOLA.com for webcams....the New Orleans newspaper the Times-Picayune announced today (a day after the NYTimes posted it) that in the fall the daily newspaper will be printed only 3 times a week: Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. They are going digital. This will make NOLA the largest US city without a daily printed newspaper. The TP has the highest per capita subscription rate, and NOLA has one of the lower internet-accessed populations. A national group has bought up several southern newspapers and is gutting all of them of the printed word...The comment section is interesting and sad - I can equate this loss of a tradition much to what we deal with in losing our steamboats...
New digitally focused company launches this fall with beefed up online coverage; The Times-Picayune will move this fall to three printed papers a week | NOLA.com
Warren Buffett just bought Media General with something like 142 newspapers around the USA. For some reason, the Tampa Tribune wasn't included but it is a shred of what it once was with smaller paper size and far less content. It is still good enough to cover the bottom of a bird cage, though which its most appropriate application.
