Here's hoping our steamboating world is better in 2009 than 2008...

DQ at Christmas

Hey Judy,
Your card got me looking thru my photos. Here is a photo of the DQ decorated for Christmas. I believe its in Natchez. The sky is reflecting off of the brown Mississippi causing it to appear blue.2767.jpg

Tom, a few years back the DQ, matter of fact all the Queens, ran cruises until just after New Years and would start up the new season in mid-February or so, after 4 to 6 weeks of layup.

At least that is what I remember from ACV and DN days, somebody please correct me here if I'm wrong...So I'm thinking this was anytime before the 2006 season. In 2006 the DQ's (and steamboatin's for that matter) last cruise was Thanksgiving week.

I took a New Years cruise in 1974 and 75 on the DQ. Those were the first ones she made, to my knowledge, on the Mississippi system.

DQ/MQ did some short over Christmas & over New Years Cruises out of NOLA in the mid to late 70's.

Hopefully Dennis Shenk can pull out some dates.

I have some DQSC cruise magazines from travel agents. They have the cruise schedules in them from 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001... ect. I remember this several years ago, I was like 11 or 12 at the time going into the travel agents office and asking if they had the new brochures yet becuase thats how I checked to see if the boats were going to pass through this area of the river that year. (before I learned how to use a computer). Anyway, the point of this post, in 2001 all 3 boats were schedules to operate during Christmas and New Years. The MQ's christmas cruise that year was suppose to be Nashville to New Orleans (a cold one). Of course these never came to be, due to the attacks of September 11, 2001 and the boats shutting down late that year.

I was on the MQ for christmas of 77 and 78. and New years 77 but not 78. Dec. 30th 1978 I was in New Roads as best man at the wedding of Greg and Judy Kern. Greg had been a Head Deckhand on the MQ and judy had been a hairdresser. Pretty sure they are still married. 5 kids, 2 sets of twins.
