I had a great weekend cranking tunes at the Chautauqua Festival at the Howard Steamboat Museum. The weather was a little warm on Saturday but mostly perfect. It was great seeing many old steamboat friends and making new ones. Congratulations to all the hard working leaders and volunteers for another successful Chautauqua Festival.

At the Chautauqua

And here we have Ted grinding away - in the first shot you can see his location near the Graeters Ice Cream Stand

And the third shot was my view for the weekend, working behind the counter in the Gift Shop. It is a reminder of the vast variety of river books they have available. This selection is now online on the museum website.

It was indeed a beautiful weekend, with several meals at Kingfish following the daily festivities. I would imagine as I type this that Curator Keith is finally getting a good night's sleep after his first Chautauqua in an official staff role. He was everywhere, as was Yvonne Knight, the Museum Administrator. It takes an army of volunteers to pull off this event, and the Howard has them. The little museum that can and does...again.8321.jpg8322.jpg8323.jpg

THANKS!

As Judy said, it takes quite a "crew" to pull off this annual spring festival and we are extremely fortunate to have many dedicated volunteers who pitch in and make it all happen. Two of those devoted volunteers are Judy (who drives over 400 miles) to help out each year and organ grinder Ted, who drives up from Nashville for both days and always adds so much to the festival with his lilting music.

Today's editions of The Courier-Journal (The Courier-Journal | Louisville and Southern Indiana news, sports, entertainment, business, real estate, jobs and classifieds. Serving Louisville, KY | courier-journal.com) and News and Tribune (Homepage » News and Tribune) carried illustrated articles about the festival in which Ted Guillaum, Jo Ann Schoen and yours truly were all mentioned!

THANKS to ALL who supported the festival in ways great and small! Planning will begin soon for Chautauqua 2013! And remember, we heartily WELCOME museum memberships, which greatly aid in keeping the museum doors open! Visit the website at Howard Steamboat Museum Jeffersonville, IN for the various levels of membership! We need YOU!!!

Keith: Thanks for the report. I missed being there. Doctor won't let me drive or even ride in my steamer for six weeks! I'm off the meds after rotary cuff surgery but there's lots of restrictions. Miss Carol, too, very much likes that Howard event. Congrats on a great event. I am ashamed to say that I am daunted by a mere hundred-mile drive against Miss Judy's 400! Cap'n Walnut
