As is tradition, at least MY tradition, Deb and I want to extend a hearty welcome to any dot.org posters or lurkers that are on the upcoming July 1st cruise on the Legendary One, the Delta Queen, Cincinnati to Memphis. If you're on board, don't be a stranger, we'd love to meet you. Deb and I are in 338, which is the Amy Carter Suite, the Dave and Linda Dewey Suite and the Judy Patsch Suite all rolled into one, knock on our door anytime, don't be shy, we give tours... 🙂

I'll also be in the Texas Lounge every morning getting my vitamin C, look for the grey haired guy with a moustache drinking an orangish-pink drink...

And Deb and I will be in the Texas Lounge every afternoon about 4...just look for the PSSOA nametags, the "Save the Delta Queen" buttons, a Sam Adams and a Zinfadel and us about 2 point 6 feet from the band...

Sorry to hear about your accident, Roger. Hope the cranky bones are healing and you'll be hale and hearty by the time of your next stint on the DQ.

Bruno, I guess you never rode the DQ when John Patterson was a Texas Lounge bartender, he would call that "orangish-pink" drink a "GIRLIE-GIRLIE" drink! He probably would ask you if you wore lace undies too! Then every time you would come into the Texas he would tell everyone you were the one who orders a "GIRLIE-GIRLIE" drink!

I have had one drink I ordered called a Girley drink by the barkeep on the AQ, it was a Cosmo and I honestly didn't know that drinks had genders :-). She and I have a pretty good relationship and I got her back for that, we giggled about that for a few nights...

No, my morning wake me up is a variation on a screwdriver: Vodka, orange juice and cranberry juice, more heavy on the cranberries. One DQ bartender named it the Bruno Breeze, I just like the taste, just tart enough...and you know with the daily 10:00AM Vodka drink specials, this just works OK for me...

And if that's girlie, so be it, I'm a big boy with reasonably strong self value with just a hint of testosterone, notice the facial expression that sorta says...Who Cares?. And I'm sorry, only one other person knows if my undies are lace...

But Val, thanks...I got a chuckle out of remembering how the Liquorlorian (isn't that just great, so DQSC-ish?) tried to nail me and it worked out that we really got each other, great memories...

My Montana heritage taught me the only fruity stuff you add to firewater would be vermouth or juniper berry juice and never drink before noon!!!!........but it's you know it's always noon somewhere. You must be somewhat new to the DQ. If you were around in Patterson's day you would be number "ONE" on his "FRR" list. John was also a great "BIRD" watcher..............always had his binoculars handy. He could spot them a mile away. He always pointed out a lot of "moons" too .........day or night when ever they popped up!!!!!

I bet Bob R., Judy P., Keith N., Jim B., Ted G. and myself are 'bout the only ones here that remember John Patterson. Seems to me in the Delta Queen Steamboat Company's deluxe brochure, for one or two years, there was a photo of Jim, Ted and Patterson all posed pretty on the grand staircase with a few other souls.

There was also a Pat Patterson whom played the clarinet in Vic Tooker's band a few years ago.

Frank, who could ever forget John or Bobbie, Larry, and the others whose names I don't recall off hand, and Dan Forman leading all of them on. Dan had a song about each and everyone of them........ I'm sure I've got some cassette tapes of them in the Texas, some are copies Ann Zieger sent us over the years. I know we have lots of video tapes taken in the Texas starting with the Vic Tooker years. The "op-ship" tape is about four hours, shows a lot repeaters and crew many of them no longer with us. Those were the days!!!

Pete, you are so right. Each one of those names rings a bell. Bobbie, I heard, passed away a few years ago, and Larry married one of C.W.Stoll's daughters.

The first bar keep that I remember is Kevin Ludwig; he married Vickie Scaggs whom was my maid up on the Sun Deck starboard side in 1979. Geoff McGregor and Robin Stapp from the purser's office left the boat when they had a child together. Greg Engelman was one of numerous members of the Engelman family from northern Kentucky to find gainful employ on the DELTA QUEEN. Oh yes, Mary Ellen Doyle was courted by the chef, and they both found happiness off of the river. Andy Farenetti (sp?) was the bar tender whom told me that the people in 102 complained about some clod that kept them up half the night walking around the texas deck every 40 minutes or so. I was the new watchman, and it probably was my footfalls that the poor occupants of the room below heard. From there on out I walked around the forward texas deck out from under the guard above and the deluxe rooms below. I still maintain that habit to this day at night time. The complaints ended forthwith. And Dan had a song for them all!
