Hi, Sandy:
Glad to read you're stocking up on kites, string for the big trip and, hopefully, some adventures flying those kites. *Don't forget, like a few did in the past, to take or make some good 'tails' for those kites. You know, tails with some knots tied in to add weight and add to aerodynamic stability so they don't flop all over or go KERPLASH in the river. Also a flat stick like one for stirring a can of paint to spool your string around. Some kites from professional hobby shops here can cost $$--but worth it. Years back on the DQ a few passengers had to scrounge around with one of the boat's cabin attendants giving them a section of white rags [Cotton is good] to add as tails. I recall one couple bringing their own 'box kite' and it really soared on high up in the sky. Good luck and have a great time.

Cheers,
R. Dale Flick

My great nephew got a new kite for his birthday yesterday. I almost snatched it out of his bag when he wasn't looking. But I just couldn't do that to a two year old!

I have a very worn pillow case, I will pack along with sizzors for the tail..I bought the basic kites...Pirates of Carriabean, Batman, and spider man..Hey they were only a dollar each at Walmart. The extra string with spinners were more than the kites.

Sandy,
Should be no problem--except for the scissors, maybe! heh heh heh!
And that'll leave you some room for goodies on the trip home--we had to buy two small bags from A Schwabb's in Memphis to get all our loot home!
They collapse too, so next trip (or cruise??) we'll pack them in the big suitcase and be ready!! Nyuck Nyuck Nyuck!! Smarter than the average bear!!
You're going to have soooo much fun!
