Anybody heard from "the gang" aboard the DQ? Pat Traynor was worried she might not be able to fly out of Florida due to the tropical storm. The schedule has the DQ at Paducah today from 8 AM - 1 PM , unless that's been changed.
UPDATE: "The Sternline Telegraph" has brought news that Pat was able to fly out of Fort Myers and made it to the DQ for the departure. Also, the boat is at Paducah today. So far, so good!
Channel 6 Skytracker in Paducah shows the DELTA QUEEN tied up there. They are an hour behind the times you have given above, so watch at 2:00 p.m. and you should be able to see her there one minute and gone the next. It's a five minute refresh.
Thanks Jo Ann! I presume that you, Travis, Phillip and others who earlier offered "taxi service" from the DQ to the museum on Sunday will be in contact to make arrangements. Let's hope for no delays due to locks, fog, etc!
Yep, what time are you expecting us at the Howard?
Looks like departure time might be 5:00 rather than 1:00.
Yvonne and I will be there around 8:30 to "get up steam" on the coffee pot, and roll out the red carpet! We anticipated the visitors would arrive sometime around 9:30 or 10:00.
Yvonne and I will be there around 8:30 to "raise steam" on the coffee pot, and to roll out the red carpet! We anticipated the visitors arriving sometime around 9:30 or 10:00. Just give us a call, please, from the landing when y'all depart. The museum phone is 812-283-3728. Thanks!
Anyone know what time the DQ is due in Louisville ???
Slow rolling engines as this is typed. 1700 departure for Henderson, KY at 0800 tomorrow. Subject to change, but isn't everything on a Steamboat?
Just talked to Pat Traynor a couple minutes ago, the boat was, as mentioned above, in Paducah today, will be in Henderson tomorrow and Owensboro Saturday, NOT Grandview. I still plan to meet the boat there as well as Louisville on Sunday. And yes Keith, my taxi services are planned to be there!
Dave,
I have heard prognostications from certain crew members that they are planning a "night on the town" in Louisville...but, that did not come from Navigation OR Engineering. I would expect somewhere near 1am if all goes well. Depends on when she locks thru at Cannelton. Usually Cannelton to Louisville is about 11-12 hours.

Thanks ,, ..
We'll see you sunday morning on the wharf;;...
The RIVER BARGE EXPLORER has been filling up the Louisville landing for the past few days, but was departing and out in midstream this morning as I crossed the bridge into downtown. So the usual wharf space for the DQ will, fortunately, be available.
Now, Travis, who ever heard of a steamboat crew wanting or having a "night on the town"? 😉
Bob,
I know, I know! When I was there we never wanted to do that!

Hi all, David D. here onboard using Pat Engle's laptop; seems very strange posting while onboard! So far we are on scheduled as far as the boat is concerned. Left Henderson right on time, Calliope playing away, and a small group to see us off. We bumped bottom the other night, woke me up in the middle of the night. After that, I dreamed of earthquakes the rest of the night! River is very low, I'm told. Woke up this AM at a lock (the lock horn woke me up) so stared out the window at a tow going the other way in the next lock. The Tow boat was the "Elizabeth Dewey" !!! That's my Grandmother's name, but too late to grab the camera and get a shot. Looong lock, I read 1050 on the wall.
We are looking forward to Louisville, sounds like we should be on the landing by 8:30 or earlier? Pat will check back, if you have different info! Oh boy Oh boy. we's having a great time! Weather's been pretty good, some showers, not really hot, but certainly humid.
Steamcerely,
David D.
PS I hear we're so short handed in engineering that the Chief is firin'!
Currently (pun intended) we (me and 170 of my happy steamboatin' friends on board the Delta Queen) are 4 miles short of Evansville just coasting along without the paddlewheel turning. We must be waiting for a towboat coming our way around the Evansville bend. Who knows.
The weather is fine. No wind. No sun beating down on the deck. It might be 83 degrees or so.
Dinner is in one hour. Am I hungry again?
Hey, I can see the big tow ahead of us coming this way. We're moving again. We've been averaging 7.5 - 8 mph on the Ohio River.
If you want to check out what else I've been doing...

We should arrive in Owensboro a little after midnight on Saturday morning (about 45 minutes from now).
We'll be leaving Owensboro at 1pm and heading for Louisville which looks like it might take us 19 hours given the speed we have been running.
I'll post a new ETA some time Saturday evening.
Cool thing happened this evening at the Newburg Lock: The new singer on board - Paula Betlam - had to go to the doctor for an alergic reaction to a bite or sting. She caught up with the boat at the Lock and climbed on board after we were lifted. Now that's something you don't see every day.
Pat,
I hope Paula is okay! Please give her my best...thank you!

Hi Pat,
Paula is new to the DQ, but definitely not new to the boats. She has a long history with the company and I think she appears more than once in the DQSC brochures. Her return this year follows a two or three year absence necessitated by the downsizing of the entertainment department.
As you already know, she is an incredible talent. But more to the point, she is the sweetest person you will ever meet.
And while I'm at it, I wish I could be on board to see her work with Fred Bishop, another giant talent. They were both on board the AQ when I joined the company in 2000 and I learned a lot from them.
Paul
I agree with everyone that they are great talents. They've only been on our boat for two weeks and it was said that they had worked together before. They will be performing tonight and I'm sure the Orleans Room will be packed.
The DQ has left Owensboro at 12:45pm Saturday afternoon bound for Louisville.
Pat,
I think I was the boats only visitor today in O'boro, almost got left on the boat when they pulled away without ringing the bell or blowing the whistle prior like usual. I took some good photos as you all pulled away, then as you passed couple miles upstream, see you in Louisville!
Phillip
Phillip, it was mighty strange to see someone leaving the boat after we had already removed one of our lines. There are a few empty cabins so we could have found room for you.
We'll be in the Cannelton Locks between 5:15pm and 5:50pm today.
Pat
Pat,
When you lock thru Cannelton you are 11-12 hours form Louisville...so I am expecting a landing in the 5-7am range in Louisville.
See you all tomorrow up here in the River City!
