Hi all,
Just a quickie; got to our hotel room in Memphis (Comfort Inn, very reasonable)--they sure know how to hurt a guy, room 1412 has a view of Mud Island, just accross from the DQ's docking. AAUGH!! We went to the Rondevous for Ribs (thought the ones on the DQ were better, also the ones we had near the Rock & Roll museum from a stand's back door, tell ya later, he had great slaw too), and back to the waterfront by 7pm to catch the calliope and departure scheduled for 7:30. But what's this, the wheel ain't rollin' yet! Hung around till 8pm, walked back to the hotel. 9:30 still no activity, and stage is still set up, as best as I could tell. Left the window open (yes, it opens about 3"--and no screen!! (14 floors up!!) so I would hear anything--including the streetcar whistles. Woke up around 1:30AM, and NO DQ!! AAUGH!! I missed seeing her leave!! AAAAAAUGH! So hard to get pics of her underway when you're aboard!
OK, there should be hot water now, showers and getting back into things here--yeech! Tonite I have to go to a parks commssion meeting, and full day tomorrow. . .
Steamcerely,
David D.
While there did you ride the streetcars? How 'bout watching Amtrak (City of New Orleans) go by the Riverfront?
Yes, of course!! And Amtrak went right by under my window, but the camera didn't turn on in time to get a shot. Cool room!!
Note, second pic is the main entrance to one of Memphis' "must do" places, the Rendevous--yes, it's in an alley!

PS, Yes we "did Graceland" too. Had to ride a city bus back to town, as we missed our shuttle (bus was fine, just as fast and lots cheaper!) Met a lot of friendly folks there.
