I just returned from a trip on the AQ Memphis to St louis. There were 4 of us ladies and we had a ball. Met some new people. Chris corbett for one. very good entertainer and cruise director. Found the crew to be very friendly and fun. this was 10th cruise. We had tea party and some trivia games plus bingo.
I would still like to see more activities on the steamboatin days. But, we have found that you can have fun anywhere and under any circumstances. We still love our American Queen. Service was a little slow in the dining room but I felt like that was due to understaffing. We got our fried green tomatoes and were in hog heaven. Can't wait for the next cruise. Missed Phil on this one but still had good entertainers.

Any reviews on Jackie? She sounds great on her website.

We didn't spend much time in the engine room bar but she filled it up every night. We enjoyed Roxie in the Captain's bar. It was more our pace. slow and easy. Chris Corbett the cruise director had a really good show. All the shows were good. You will have a great time I'm sure. Really great crew.

Hi Sally,

Was there a repeat passenger party on the AQ?

Thanks, Sally,

The picnic might have been skipped because of the length of your cruise. Maybe they are doing the repeater parties only on the DQ (or when there´s a certain amount of repeaters abord). How about the breadpudding on the AQ? Glad to hear the fried green tomatoes are back, I love them too!

Hi Bruce,

If I may be so bold. You will LOVE Jackie. Of course, I'm prejudiced, we've been partners off and on for 7 years. In all hoesty though, when you hear her sing, close your eyes. I guarantee you'll think of mint julips.

Jackie is top notch

When I was managing a local pottery studio, I put her CD on during Ladies Night and several people asked how to get a copy. Of course, that started me on steamboat adventures but I adore her CD Just Jackie- most are original songs with a few "covers" on old favorites.

"So, if you're lookin for me, I just left. I got tired of waitin' . . . "
and got on board a steamboat : )

Cheers

My daughter has asked me to post this question.

The DQSC web site talked about movies being shown in the theater on the Texas deck. Some cruise reviews mentioned that what was shown was shown over and over and over. No one coming back from the boat this year has even mentioned the Theater on the Texas deck.

Did the TV in every room replace the use of the Theater? Is it even used for anything?

Bruce, the theatre is used. I don't know how many people take advanage of it. We watched Pursuit of Happiness. They showed Happy Feet, The Holiday,Stranger than fiction and Casino Royale. We were on a 5 day and they rotated the movies showing 2 different ones each day. they showed each movie twice each day. The theater was comfortable but I didn't want to waste 2 hrs sitting in the dark. That option is there for the ones who choose it. I don't know how often they chanbge movie. they might add a couple more for a 7 day cruise. Hope this is helpful

The theatre is always available, as far as I know. No first run (or even second run) movies, though. Mostly just vintage and classic stuff from their collection, as you can tell from Sally's list.

Hi Pat,

I forget what we did on the Delta Queen, but last season, one of my duties as Assistant Cruise Director on the MQ was to come up with the movie schedule.

We did a different rotation each cruise. Most of the movies were of recent vintage. United 93 was a popular title, as I recall. Mixed in were at least one "classic" and one or two shorter titles germane to the particular cruise. The day before a stop at Paducah, for example we would show a video about Paducah (I forget the title). Natchez and Vicksburg usually rated a Civil War title, big band cruises featured The Glenn Miller Story with Jimmy Stewart, and so on.

The movies were a popular activity for a surprising number of people. Well, surprising to me anyway, as I usually got the call whenever the automatic computer program malfunctioned and I had to face some very upset folks.

Phil came up with what I thought was a unique use of the theater. He had the engineeers figure out how to channel a satellite feed of the World Series through the theater system and that was very popular.

On the Empress of the North, we had a DVD player in the boat-wide video system to feed movies to the cabins. Again, the idea there was to show recent movies and features dealing with the itinerary that week. So among the theater release titles, we would show a Lewis and Clark feature, or something about Alaska.
