A whistle salute and delightfully offkey steam calliope rendition of "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" today in observance of the 'three score and three' natal day celebration of Dubuque's steamboat buff extraordinaire, David Tschiggfrie. And congratulations are also in order upon your appointment as editor of the S&D REFLECTOR! I treasure our friendship of the past four decades and wish you all the best.
Keep rollin' on the river!
Keith
(P.S. "Capt. Fishfry" was a nickname bestowed on Dave many years ago by the late Capt. C.W. Stoll.)
A second to that motion!
A whistle salute, but I can't give an offkey rendition of HB since I can't even find middle C on a keyboard! But birthday felicitations anyway of a titanic proportion to Capt. Fishfry from 100 miles south on the UMR.
Happy Birthday Dave! Hope you are having a great natal day celebrating! Too bad we aren't all sitting around a calliope keyboard! Here is my birthday wish for you.... YouTube - Happy Birthday To You on calliope.MOV

Was great to see you, before you got "Older". Have a good day and good year.
Dave, a very happy birthday to you. Thanks again for a wonderful presentation at S&D!
I called Dad tonight and he wanted to express his gratitude for all your birthday wishes. Mom and Dad were in the Berkshires today on their way to Vermont and New Hampshire. They should be back to Dubuque in about two weeks, at which point I'll help Dad with getting a new laptop in anticipation of his duties as editor of the Reflector.
Happy belated birthday, Dave!
And all the best for your new duties!
Carmen
Tell us your Secret of Survival, Ol' Man. Enjoy your golden years.

Dave: Word of your natal day came through while I and First Mate Miss Carol were getting back from safari so I am glad to add our good wishes for the coming years and assure you of a berth in one of our little steamers anytime you are on the mid-Ohio/'Rabbit Hash vicinity. If we can help in any way with the Reflector, let us know!! Cap'n Walnut.
A sincere and belated thank you to my river friends for your very kind birthday greetings! Debbie and I are finishing our first tour of New England (now that we are both retired school teachers) after many years of longing to skip the classes we were teaching to be able to venture into the beautiful northeast in Autumn. Although we were a bit premature in the dates we chose for our visit, the fall pallette of colors were beginning to appear, and we wanted to take advantage of our sojourn in Marietta for S&D weekend to continue "out east" while the opportunity presented itself.
Upon return home, reality will undoubtedly set in as I fully contemplate the gigantic footsteps I have been asked to follow left by the three previous editors of the Reflector. I ask your patience and understanding as I assume these duties, and also your support with your contributions to the pages of S&D's beloved magazine. It is both an honor and a tremendous responsibility to have been entrusted with this position, and I will do my very best to continue in the tradition set by Capt. Fred Way, Woody Rutter, and Capt. David Smith. Your suggestions and contributions are most welcome and I look forward to hearing from you.
P.S. to Alan: my "secret of survival" (like yours, I suspect) is a beautiful, patient and understanding wife, and scores of river friends who provide a wonderful family to keep alive the passion that lies within all of us for the river, its people, and its boats. Doesn't get much better than that!
David,
The leaves here in the Queen City don't look like it's fall, but the temps sure feel like it today. I hope that you had a wonderful birthday, and are enjoying the scenery up east.
Best wishes,
Frank
