Well this is a first for me...postin' on dot.org from the Texas on the LENGENDARY ONE.

The trip so far has been the usual, expected ball. The usual crew, what seems is our second family is on board, I've eaten way too much, and it's only the third day, and our bar tab is becoming an item.

Lots of discussions about the boat's future with the passengers. I'm doing my best to give out the truthful stuff and to squelch rumors. And, this is a biggie, EVERYBODY that has cruised before on the ol' gal, and there are a slew of two and three timers on board, are in universal shock. Lot's of "What the hell are we going to do?" Jo Ann, I'm talking as fast as I can..

The only thing that seems a little different to Deb and me is that there are no passengers that we have cruised with in the past. But lots of friendly people, including people from Denmark and a slew of people from Canada. The boat is full, which I see as an exceptionally good thing.

Deb and I are the only ones wearing PSSOA nametags and I've stopped counting the amount of times that I was mistaken for a crewmember.

I disagree about some of the comments on the quality/quantity of the food. I just had one of the chef's made to order omelets, talk about to die for! Actually the dinner portions are smaller, but that is something I welcome. The breakfasts and lunches seem no different than previous years. And the dinner items seem to have improved a little from our earlier cruises this year, that may be because our very favorite chef is on board this time.

It is obvious to Deb and I miss all the FRN's (and thanks to a crewmember who will remain nameless we were indoctrinated to what that stands for 🙂 ) that typically cruise with us. We have gotten a gazillion comments on how beautiful our door name plaque is that our buddy made for us. Sometimes I wonder if David should be taking orders... And Denis's picture viewers is going 24 hours in the Texas, wonderful stuff, and zillions of the pictures were taken by Diamond Dave.

As I said, we're having a ball, but we miss you all a lot, and you know who you are...

Happy Labor Day, Bruno and Debbie!!

Steamy, what´s that??? Ah, you might speak of that kind of weather we had in Louisville two weeks ago. We arrived back home yesterday and welcome back to reality: forecast here for Munich is: Rain, 50°F and snow starting at 3,300 feet. Is this really called summer???

Bruno and Deb - Happy Labor Day to you and all the Friendly River Neighbors! Say Hi to Denis, Darryl, Zane, Kevin, Mary, Travis or whoever is on as DG. If I were there I'd drag you all out on deck for a calliope concert if for no other reason than to help you forget about your bar tab.

OH MAN, y'all know how to make one sad that he's not there! Now if Jazzou were out there playing the calliope, I'd be crying 'cause I'm over here! I'll have to play some of my recordings of Travis & Tony playing it, just for atmosphere.
BTW, my doctor says these trips are bad for me, I gain too much weight!
Take orders for door signs, eh?? Hmm, not a bad idea! If anyone's interested, post me, I'll see what I can do.
Just put up some pencil drawings I got off ebay done by a Geneva South in '74, one of the DQ, and one of the BofL & DQ racing. The hallway walls are filling up!
Glad to hear you're doing your part in keeping info straight out there Bruno. I think you'll make a bang-up spokesperson!
Give our best to everyone! Have some 4-day-old bread pudding for me!
S'
Linda & David D.
PS 'bout 95 today here in North. CA, supposed to be in 80s tomorrow, and back to mid 90s by Thursday! And DRY.

Hey there from more than steamy St. Francisville...

Friendly River Neighbors? hee-hee-hee 🙂 And steamy? I'm the HVAC engineer and even I'm amazed at how totally brutal the heat is. The temperature I can identify with...it's hitting low 90's, but the dewpoint is high 70's, gawd that's nasty. But Deb and I are managing, plenty of Sam Adams Lager, brought on board for me special in Helena (you absolutely GOT to love these guys!) and Deb's got her Barringers, we're good to go.

Three bucket boards replaced yesterday. Tony, bless him, played my request, "Kingdom Coming" on the calliope, when we left Vicksburg the other night. I love that song, ever since I heard Bobby Horton sing the words to the politically correct version. Now Tony starts off with one hand then brings in the second hand during the second stanza (is that the correct term: stanza?). Absolutely beautiful...He's one of the masters,...absolutely the master. And I still wonder about the pretty dance the DQ does turning around in the Yazoo. These pilot and captain guys are craftsmen.

It's a day later, one more day gone from the cruise so to speak...we're still having a ball, wonderful conversation, good friends, old and new, wonderful food...And I had another first, this is just so cool, there is a passenger that works for a radio staion and has a gizzillon tunes on his laptop all playing through the Texas speakers. The place is hopping, and I got to hear Steely Dan in the Texas, suckin' down a Sam, honestly I'm in heaven (Don Fagen in the Texas? hooo-eeee), then a bunch of Zydeco...love that stuff...

Today's Bob's singalong and of course, the picnic...Pray for me...Pray for some sensiblity in how much catfish I eat...

St Francisville, one of my favorite towns. It's a little like Mayberry, no? For a long time, I maintained that the whole place was a movie set built just for DQ boats. Why? Because you never see anyone but pax walking the streets.

Please tell Tony I said hello. Got him to laugh once. Told him that when he plays in that bent over posture of concentration, he looks like somebody building a bomb. He's a great guy and a great player.

Ah. Picnic. The setting for Leone learning another word in English .... liability.

Take care, mon frere

Paul,

I´m not sure if she still remembers that word. But ask Bruno and Debbie, Leonie started to communicate in English on our recent vacation. And she´s getting along pretty well. Last thing she did was buying 2 bottles of water at McDonalds at Boston airport.
