Today marks the beginning of Bruno Krause's retirement. He obviously is leaving the work force at a VERY young age!(in my opinion) This is the beginning of my sixth year in retirement, and I highly recommend it to Bruno and anyone else contemplating the possibility. Of course, one of the driving reasons for Bruno's decision was to free time up to ride the DELTA QUEEN more, and that has obviously been short-circuited, at least at the present(in my opinion), but hopefully the river fraternity to which the DQ has introduced Bruno and Deb will bring them happiness and good times over the years. And who knows, the DQ has overcome other malevolent owners in her lifetime, maybe she can conquer one more(in my opinion). Best wishes, Bruno and Deb!

Thanks Judy, you're a good friend and a great sounding board for me! I don't think you can imagine what the emotions, the psyche has been for me today. I thrilled to tears and in tears at the same time. I'm euphoric and in the bottom of the well at the same time...

Deb and I are hoping the positive thing in all this mess is that we get to know and love more river rats...gawd, ya can't beat that, Queen or no Queen. Less cruises equates for me more trips to river rat activity, I mean, come on, we gotta fill this retirement time with Brown Water stuff somehow...

Thanks again, 30 years has been a long time and I can't wait to start our new life. Sorta started with the good ol' Mississippi Queen 7 summers ago...

Brown water activities

Brown water activities:
S&D meeting in September;
3 MOR meetings;
2 Midwest Buffs meetings;
Howard Museum Chautauqua in May;
Howard Museum steamboat talk in August;
Golden Eagle Club meetings quarterly;
ride the NATCHEZ in New Orleans, and take the Canal St. Ferry too;
ride the BELLE in Louisville;
ride the JULIA BELLE SWAIN out of LaCrosse (she still does some overnights), and while in LaCrosse peruse the 45,000 steamboat photos in the Murphy Library;
ride the overnight TWILIGHT trip, first visiting the Middle Upper Mississippi River Museum in Rock Island;
get out Franz and Carmen's Steamboating Guide and do a section of a river at a time - going to all the museums and attractions they've found would take up a year of your time;
go over to Europe and ride their 100+year old steamboats;
rent a houseboat on the beautiful UMR with some of your river friends;
and finally, start collecting steamboat photos, postcards, memorabilia and see how long before you swear you need a dumpster to get organized!

Bruno has TWO life milestones this month -- retirement from that four lettered word known as WORK -- and his birthday on Tuesday, August 7th. Bruno, here's a whistle salute to you and many good wishes for your and Deb's "new life". May it be full of steamboating adventures around every bend!

See you soon and keep up steam!
Keith
