Greetings From New Orleans !
Thanks in large part to this country's news media and other news related sources , many if not all of us had a pretty good idea of the scope and magnitude of this Spring's record level flood . Yes , there were a few news reels of the Spring flood and yes , as usual the media sensationalized the " event " as well and as long as they could in order to get as much attention and ratings but I would dare say that it is one thing to read about it and to get a sixty second sound bite of it but then it is yet another thing to actually see the record levels up close and yes , even personal .
Today , I was on a south bound chemical tanker out of Convent , La. and passed through the Belmont Ranges and meet a north bound privately owned self propelled dredge and questioned the Captain of the dredge of his plans and intentions of helping to maintain the deep water crossings between New Orleans and Baton Rouge . I was told by him that after only a few underwater surveys , the crossings have filled in and that it will take quite a bit of dredging to clean out and maintain them for the deep draft ships to transit the river and to eventually make their way to Baton Rouge !
Below are a few shots of the water marks and other indicators that were left after the river subsided some what and in my opinion it is a reminder of what the wrath of Mother Nature is capable of and how the powers that be must remain vigilant in maintaining this countries flood protection programs !
Smooth Sailing !
