Will any of the Queens...or any other steamboats for that matter...be on the Ohio between aug. 7-10? Wondering if we should hang out on the river with picnic lunches and film at any time? And....if any of the Queens are docking at Madsion, would I be able to take my kids for a tour of the boat? I would like them to see how beautiful the boats are....

I don't think the Queens will be in Madison between the 7th-10th. The MQ was southbound here this morning. It's on her schedule to stop at Madison during this Cincinnati round-trip, but I don't know if she is at Madison this morning, or if she will be there on Sunday. The DQ will be at Madison on Saturday the 12th.

The webcam on our fleet caught MQ this morning at 7am, heading for Louisville (or perhaps Madison first?). The webcam has some serious focus problems, but you can see the MQ rounding the bend below us.61.jpg

Bex,

You have to hurry and get in a day early. According to my schedule the MQ is in Madison tomorrow, Aug 6 (8am - 1pm, Master should be Paul Thoeny). The DQ will be in Madison on Aug 12 (8am - 1pm, Master should be Mike Williams). Usually they do not give any tours of the boats. If you take your old boarding pass with you to proove you´re a repeat passenger it might work out. Usually you have to know someone aboard who takes you on as a visitor. And it all depends on the security level.

Bex,

The MQ is in Cincy on Monday (leaving at 6pm), Tue Steamboating downriver, Wed Henderson (1-5pm) and Thu Paducah (8am-1pm).

The DQ is in Nashville on Monday (leaving 7:30pm), Tue Dover (12-5pm), Wed Paducah (8am-1pm) and Thu Evansville (8am-1pm).

So the only chance to see the MQ might be on Tuesday while she´s cruising. There´s a good chance to catch the DQ in Evansville on Thursday in the morning as this is not too far from Louisville.

The Thursday night cruise on the Belle is really nice. If you need anything to eat then book the dinner too. Food is very good. If you want to eat before the cruise or for lunch try Kingfish in Jeffersonville right at the levee with a great view on the Belle.

Good luck in chasing steamboats!

I caught up with the MQ at Madison on Sunday morning. I produced a picture ID and my PSSA card, gave them to Popeye Jones at the end of the stage, and then enjoyed an hour looking around onboard. This was a real treat as I had never been aboard the MQ and had not seen her, in fact, for 30 years (almost to the day). I was in Louisville in August 1976 when she made one of her early trips. Anyway, it was a very pleasant hour indeed! I met Captain Bobby Powell (bumped into him in one of the corridors) and can now put a face with postings from Paul Penta and Phil Westbrook (saw their pictures). Followed her upriver just a little ways.

Thanks, MQ folks, for this privilege !

Hi Folks,

Here is official, unadorned, no kidding revised schedule for the MQ this week. We were supposed to go to Chattanooga, but apparently there's a problem with the lock at Florence, AL - so, we're going to Nashville instead.

Mon 8/7 - CIN
Tue 8/8 - Steamboating
Wed 8/9 - Henderson (0800-1300)
Thu 8/10 - Paducah (0800-1200)
Fri 8/11 - Savannah (1300-1700)
Sat 8/12 - Steamboating
Sun 8/13 - Dover (0800-1300)

OK Linda?? :O)

Paul,
Thank you! I hope Bex will be able to take her family to see both the MQ and DQ later on in the season. Say hi and thank you to Phil for me!
