Despite the chilly, rainy evening, there was a nice turnout aboard the BELLE for the Propeller Club's Maritime Day cruise. Congratulations to our own Jim Reising, who was honored as the Propeller Club's person of the year! It was nice to have a lesisurely dinner and visit with many good river friends as the beautiful BELLE chugged up and down the Ohio, which is again UP a bit. And it's always thrilling to hear that whistle blow! Much appreciation to Chief Kenny for all his work in making the arrangements for a memorable event and to the great crew of the BELLE for a job well done. Especially good to see Matt Dow standing watch on the bow as a new crew member!
I'd like to add my congratulations to Jim for the honor bestowed upon him. He had posted on here about the event, but somehow he failed to mention he would be the honored person tonight. A great time was had by all!
Congrats on the honor, Jim! I wish I could have chatted with yall a little more, but I was on bow watch for the entire trip. Oh well, that's the price of working on a real steamboat again 🙂
Another congratulations to Jim for being named Person of the year!
Here is a photo of some auspicious people from this evenings cruise.
L to R: Captain Kevin Mullen, Jim Reising, Yours truly, Keith Norrington, and Captain Michael Fitzgearld.
What a great time was had by all and what great conversations we all had! One of my favorite cruises on the BELLE of all time!
Thank you so much for the congratulations, it's like Dale Flick said if you live long enough someone will realize you're around. The trip on the BELLE was delightful although the weather wasn't. I'm afraid that I am guilty of the sin of not realizing what a treasurer the BELLE really is as I watch it go by in the summer. We take too much for granted.
Personally it was a wonderful evening for me, the BELLE, good friends, and all my kids and grand kids; how could it get any better....it couldn't!
A marvelous evening indeed! Heartiest congratulations to Jim (sorry I didn't catch up with you before you went ashore). A big "well done" also to the boat's crew, who labored through trying circumstances in the shipyard early this year. She runs well, and I am convinced it's quieter in the engine room than it used to be.....which is a good indicator of improved efficiency.
Ditto..
Congratulations Jim! I only wish the trip had been this weekend when I will be in town. It is gratifying to see a maritime organization honor someone who has been an indispensible part of the Louisville river industry, and for them to acknowledge that it isn't just captains who are important cogs in maritime endeavors. Your humility wouldn't allow you to let the cat out of the bag regarding the evening's honoree, but now that the news has hit .org, it is known worldwide! See you at the Howard this weekend.
