Dear steamboating colleagues:
Taking this means to inform all of you who knew Ann V. Zeiger that her memorial service has been finalized here in Cincinnati.

TIME: Saturday, March 24th at 11:00 AM.

PLACE: Christ Church Cathedral - 'Centennial Chapel.' 318 E. 4th Street, Cincinnati, Ohio, just west of Broadway. Main entrances to the cathedral and 'Centennial Chapel' is on the Sycamore St. side. 'Centennial' is the brick Gothic structure slightly to the rear with stained glass windows.

PARKING: Ample 'lot parking' is across on Sycamore, Broadway north of 4th St. and the Western Southern garage on Broadway just south of 4th St. Many locals attending may have other familiar parking sites they use.

RECEPTION: The one hour memorial with music and words will be followed by a reception hosted by the family and friends in the Christ Church rooms.
A special thanks to Gayle Hindman and Barbara Hameister for their abiding attention and care given to Ann in the last several months of her life. The DELTA QUEEN and our rivers were a part of her life along with the many friends who contribute to Steamboats.org.

'With the wings of a dove I would fly away and be at rest.'

Respecfully submitted,

Dale,

Thank you so much for passing this information on to us. Unfortunately, I will be on the boat and unable to attend, this is sad for me as Ann was a good friend and I would have liked to have been there very much.

Perhaps at 11am on the 24th, I can find my way to the DELTA QUEENs calliope and play a tune in her honor as others are gathered in Cincinnati. It is the least I can do for the selfless friendship she gave me.

Travis, I think that the "Triumphal March" from AIDA would be quite appropriate as your tribute to Ann.

Steamboating colleagues:
Frank is correct on the 'Triumphal March' from Aida--minus the chariots, elephants, zebras and lions. Ann, before her death, had also mentioned 'The saints to marching in,' 'Sheep may safely graze,' Widor's incredible organ piece played at the service for Capt. C.W. Stoll. Another she liked was 'The holy city.'

Ann was also close to the BELLE OF LOUISVILLE enjoying many excursions over the years. She watched/listened to Keith Noirrington, Doc Hawley, Travis Vasconcelos during their renditions. At a number of Tall Stacks she played the BELLE's calliope, among others. In her home she 'marked' off the keys of her piano with tape and practiced calliope selections on the limited keys to get the technique down pat. She also played the calliope on the DELTA QUEEN and NATCHEZ. Are there others I've forgotten?

To a question E=Mailed here. Christ Church Cathedral on 4th St. is the Bishop's seat for the Episcopal diocesss of this wide-ranging region. Ann and her family were associated there for a number of years and she used to laugh saying, "They really put on the 'smells and bells' there in the high church." You did well, Ann, very well.

Cheers,

Dale is correct that Frank is correct about "Aida". Dan Forman first played that on the DQ calliope as we were leaving Cincinnati in 1975. As we headed downriver, that triumphant march reverberated under the bridges and left Ann speechless, no small task. From then on, Dan always played that as Ann's song.

Travis: "Pull Out All The Stops" and let the grand march reverberate over the river! Ann will be listening! Thanks!

Thanks to Travis and Keith for their fine comments Re: Ann Zeiger's memorial this Saturday here in Cincinnati. I've been occupied/busy here and am just catching up on Steamboats.org postings and enjoying all immensely.

I hate to belabor the point after the initial posting Re: Ann. In no way was the little card Ann's family mailed out to be regarded as an 'invitation only.' The family have been busy with Ann's affairs etc. doing the best they can working from her address book and memories of river friends. Several people have called/E=Mailed about the memorial having not clicked on this board or scrolling down to see the initial posting.

All who knew Ann, and are free this Saturday morning 11:00 AM, are warmly welcomed. The rites of Christ Church Cathedral will follow strictly the ceremonial practices. An informal reception will follow in the Cathedral assembly rooms to have refreshment, talk, share memories, view memory books etc. Believe me when I say that most of you reading this and knew Ann were a treasured part of her life. She said to me years ago, "The river changed my life."

Respectfully submitted,

And I'm sorry I can't attend the Memorial service either, and/or play Vidor's Tocatta there (or anywhere else), but back in the winter I made some nice runs on her behalf on a Colorado ski slope. She was a good skier and enjoyed it almost as much as riding the Delta Queen.
