Greetings from the banks of the Ohio!
The Monroe County River Museum, in conjunction with Clarington's annual Sunfish Creek Festival will, for the first time, be open to the public for an open house during the festival June 12-13!
Committee members and community leaders will be on hand for a ribbon cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday June 12 following the parade. The museum will actually open at 11 a.m. Saturday to the public.
There is much to be said about our museum and how rapidly it has grown and taken off these past 9 months! The museum will feature several exhibits including, "Sunfish Boat Builders Float Their Dreams," "Showboats! Entertainment Rides the River!", "Clarington Memories," and more! Our main exhibit room beholds a great surprise! We are very thankful for the many wonderful items, models, paintings, and more that have been coming in.
Everyone is welcome to attend this event and partake in the festivities that will be overflowing in the town!!!
Taylor: Congratulations and a whistle salute to you and to all those who have been working hard to bring the new river museum to fruition. As one who has been involved with a steamboat museum for over 40 years, I well understand what it takes to "keep up steam" on a daily basis. Wish I could be on deck to join in the opening festivities, but duty calls here. Hope to get up there sometime to enjoy the fruits of your enthusiasm and labor. Thanks, best wishes and please give my best to Fred McCabe.
