The QOW has been under the radar during the past few months since ACL bought her. Apparently, though, they're getting ready to go for real.

I wish her well.

Wish them the best, BUT!

At $3,500 for the cheapest cabin PER PERSON. They will have a very limited market. This is the same price structuring that brought down Majestic. In this economy I don't know what will happen.

ACL runs top dollar full cruises regularly up here on the Maine coast, and with their client base and established quality operations, it looks like they've got every reason to anticipate success.

I agree, Jazzou. To tell the truth, the Empress attracted a similiar pax base. Had she been able to shake the habit of hitting things, perhaps she would have done better over time.

I think what killed American West was the whole Majestic thing. AWSC was doing quite nicely, thank you. Merging AWSC and DQSC was a big mistake. And that's not hindsight. The only thing those two companies had in common were the paddlewheels. During my time at AW, I never understood why they considered DQ a competitor. Cross promotion between them, without a true corporate marriage might have worked a lot better. But you could get in trouble on AW boats for even mentioning Delta Queen. Of course, I didn't much care about that, wearing my DQ tie on the first day of each cruise. It was a great conversation starter. Maybe that's why I only lasted one season? :O)
