I don't have all of the information in front of me as I am at sea, but I can say the MOR trip will be on Saturday morning October 18. The MOR tickets are for steerage and do not include breakfast which will be served in the cabin. When we purchased the tickets last November the buffet breakfast was already sold out.

Due to having to pay in full for the tickets, plus all applicable taxes, there are only a limited number of MOR tickets available. We are regrettably forced to limit the tickets to one per MOR member. And some have been purchased by the membership already.

There was information in the most recent Riverview that all members should have received before Christmas, and there will be more information in following Riverviews.

MOR has sold just over half their available tickets. Please get your checks to me as soon as possible if you plan to attend. Make checks payable to Middle Ohio River Chapter of S & D. Send to my home address. Email me here if you have any questions. Thanks for your support.

Belle ride on Sat

We too are planning on making the Sat AM ride on the Belle and look forward to meeting several of you.

This should be an exciting time to be on the Belle, in Louisville, and on the river.

For what it is worth, the MQ Mermaids, sign, and recently added steam whistle (working on compressed air) will be out on display at MM 600.5.

If anyone is interested in a close-up visit, perhaps we can coordinate that with some goings on at HSM (Keith).

Thank you George, Kim and Lucy Belle for suggesting a visit to "Burch's Landing" where the MQ mermaids and nameboard keep sentinel over the beautiful Ohio. I'm sure that many of the steamboat folks would enjoy seeing your beautiful home.

That Saturday MIGHT be the day that Capt. Clarke "Doc" Hawley will present a talk at the Howard Museum about his years on the Str. AVALON. Doc will be a BUSY man during the centennial celebration, as they have him slated to make presentations, play the calliope, etc. I am working with the BELLE folks to coordinate Doc's time at the museum. I hope we can nail down some dates and times in the very near future.

The museum will be BUSY with bus tours that week. Have at least SIX on the book, and just had a call today for another one from a group in Oklahoma. Jeffersonville's "STEAMBOAT DAYS" festival will be in full swing downtown with booths, food, music, etc. To make it work, I am scheduling tours at times the museum would normally be closed. This is a once-in-a-lifetime event!

The HSM will also be hosting other events that week, including a cocktail party for the national convention of the Propeller Club. Stay tuned!

MOR only has four more tickets for the Saturday morning October 18th. ride on the "Birthday Belle". We will try to purchase more once those are gone but there's no guarantee that we will be able to get any.

That evening's banquet the guest speaker will be Chief Engineer Kenny Howe. Chief Howe started his career on the BELLE OF LOUISVILLE. He served on the DELTA QUEEN, and was the engineer at Jeffboat whom assembled the machinery on the MISSISSIPPI QUEEN. Today he works as one of the engineers on the BELLE and has been seen in Chattanooga helping to raise steam on the DELTA QUEEN.

Capt. Clarke "Doc" Hawley will be presenting a talk at the Howard Steamboat Museum on Saturday, October 18th at 3:00 PM. This will be the annual "River Ramblings" educational lecture series program.

There will be other events at the HSM during the centennial celebration, but those are not set in stone as yet. I have been trying to coordinate the programs so most everybody can ride the boats of their choice and attend everything if they so wish, including the MOR program on Saturday evening.

This will be Chief Kenny's second time to address the MOR S&D Chapter, the last time being in October, 2007 when he presented a slide talk in the HSM carriage house and his son Bobby catered the event with a box supper. Kenny, whom I've known since I was 14, is always a crowd pleaser with his vast knowledge and entertaining style of speaking. I couldn't run the HSM without him!

I believe we're down to maybe two tickets left at this time - as I had a call over the weekend inquiring about the purchase of a couple. So looking forward to Captain Hawley's talk.
