Does anyone know if the work has started on the MQ as of yet? Where would they do the work?

Thomas,

As far as I heard the MQ is off limits for any visitors even for crew of the other boats. They are currently working on the MQ. We´ll be in NOLA for a couple of days by next week. Maybe we can get a glance on the MQ from the river.

Word on our cruise is that she will move under her own power upriver for further repairs (I can't remember the town, St Louis or Cinci??).

St. Louis

David,

Should be St. Louis. The AQ was refurbished there too.

Carmen,
Thanks, that's what I thought, but wasn't certain. Looking forward to seeing those "mobile homes" offen her! Pilots are too, I'm sure!

MAL operations base is in STL

Yes, it is most likely St. Louis. The MAL maintenance and operational base is in St. Louis now. They occupy office space in a land-based office park, about 10 miles from any river. How about that. The river-based operations may still be in Wood River, IL. It was for the AQ restoration. We'll see if this changes this time around.

Last season, when I heard the MQ would go by the AQ on the way to Alton, I stayed up to see her even though it would be past 0100 when we did it. Know that even though we are live aboards, the crew still understands the magic. The AQ was my first steamboat and you always have a special place in your heart for first loves of all kinds. Even though the light was dim, there she was as we turned the corner, and I did get a heart-jump. Can't wait to see her again.

I remember when we went by her on the southbound cruise last September – see attached picture. I was up by the Calliope Bar when we went by, and Phil Westbrook was with us. As we went by, Phil fired up the calliope and played a rousing rendition of Dixie, which was well received by the workman on the AQ. Another great memory from the cruise!
