The Hurtigruten cruise ship MS NORDKAPP has run aground in Antarctica. This by itself is not a news item for steamboats.org - but if I recall this correctly, there is someone on board many of us know: Phyllis Dale. I'm sure she will have a great adventure story to tell when she's back home.

Here is the Reuters news story: http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=worldNews&storyID=2007-01-31T102554Z_

Hi all,

I just received an email by Phyllis that she is doing fine and is waiting to move over to the MS Nordnorge which is picking up the passengers of the damaged MS Nordkapp.

Dear Carmen & Franz:
Thsnkf for the post & link to the MS NORDKAP. One fine ship. Phyllis Dale really gets around. Last I heard from her before the holidays she'd E=Mailed from Tanzania, Africa headed for Cairo, Egypt. Don't know if she made a Nile River cruise or not.

Cheers,

I hereby dub her "The Unsinkable Phyllis Dale"!
I sure hope this wasn't a result of the Norwegian Cruise joke I sent her!

David,

You wrote what I thought :-).

I heard that Hurtigruten had to get a permission by the state of Argentina to get all the folks over to the Nordnorge as this exceeds her passenger capacity. The Nordkapp had 294 passengers and added those to the already 243 passengers of the Nordnorge. Must be quite crowded now. Obviously the Nordkapp passengers have to "camp" in public rooms. The ship should be back in Argentina by tomorrow. The Nordkapp cancelled the last three cruises of the Antarctica season. She´s expected to be back by spring running 4 night trips between Hamburg and London and the Baltic Sea.
