It appears the recent flooding on the Lower Mississippi is now OLD NEWS, as the national media is no longer devoting any coverage to it. At Natchez, the river was at 45.71 at noon today (flood stage is 48 feet) after the historic record setting crest of 61.9 feet on May 19th. The casino boat at Natchez Under-the-Hill is again open after being closed for six weeks, they are repairing the damaged lights and replacing rip rap along Silver Street, and other businesses are coming back to life as a massive clean up operation is underway.

Best wishes and a whistle salute to ALL the good folks who bravely battled the flood, helped those who lost their homes and did the best they could to make the most of a very bad situation. They are the true heroes!

River on the Rise - AGAIN!

The word from Natchez today is that the river is rising again, as the result of water coming from torrential rains over the Ohio River Valley. By Saturday, the Mississippi at Natchez is to be 47 feet, with flood stage being 48.
