A few years ago (can't believe it's been that long) there was talk about a small steamboat up for grabs called the Hiawatha. If anyone knows its current status, let me know. I did an internet search and found nothing. Knowledge of any other approximately 30 to 40 foot steamboats would be appreciated. Having a COI is preferable.

Another small authentic steamboat still on the market is the former Shawnee Princess. It's a sternwheeler, 59' x 11' and is inspected for passenger service. It's out east, on the Delaware River. They have been listing it at $65K (including trailer) for the past several months in Boats & Harbors magazine.8543.jpg

Around Somewhere

Thanks. Was hoping for smaller and closer. All the searches I made for the Hiawatha dated back to 2010. I may decide to start with something hum drum like a pontoon boat, just to test the water. Already have a line on one of those in Colorado. But whatever has happened to the Hiawatha? It must still be around...

Hiawatha hit the Boats & Harbors classifieds again a couple months ago, and I see it is still listed. Currently moored at Bay City, Michigan. 37'-10", 13 tons. Same asking price as Shawnee Princess: $65K. No mention of a trailer for the Hiawatha. Phone number 989-686-6033. Email: [email protected]

I checked boats and harbors and didn't run across it, but maybe I didn't navigate their web site appropriately, no pun intended. I will check on it. I also found 2 non- stamboats in Wyoming that are a pretty good price with trailers, and that's a biggie. They have COI's and are rated for 30+ pax.

Twin Lakes, actually. Got to work out the details with the US Forest Service. The last boat tour operator there died, then there was nothing. Last year someone tried to get something going but didn't. So, we're going to look into it.

The Hiawatha doesn't appear in the latest online Boats & Harbors edition. Not sure if it sold, or they just quit advertising for a while. My latest printed issue is the 3rd July issue, and it's in there on page 44. The online issue is the 1st August issue. The email and phone in my last posting should work. Good luck.
