A week from today will be the River Ramblings presentation by Capt. Carl Henry, who has worked on the Dells ducks, JBS, Riverbarge, and towboats. He is now Captain of the Scott Stegbauer. Carl is going to be showing pictures he's taken over the years while commenting on his river life. The program begins at 3 PM EDT, which gives attendees the chance to ride the BELLE's trip from 12-2. After the RR presentation and river rummage sale, the group wanders over to Kingfish on the river for dinner. After dinner everyone is invited to my suite at the Towne Place Suites, just 2 blocks from Kingfish, to continue the river revelry. Sunday brings Capt. Jim's houseboat safari or a trip on the BELLE, another meal at Kingfish...and of course one needs to fit a visit into the Howard Museum main building at some time during the weekend. The weather is supposed to become more humane for next week, so a good time will be had by all, see you at the Howard!

Judy,

I am definately looking forward to it and plan to be on deck for as much of it as I can! It's been a long time since my last steamboat activity and I need the positive energy and commraderie of my steamboatin' friends! Lookin forward to a great talk and a lot of river socializing. I will have to look through the archives and see what I can find to donate to the rummage sale.

The extended weather forecast on this Sunday morning says that next week we'll have a drop in humidity levels and the high on Saturday will be 90. Remember that the 1880's carriage house is NOT air conditioned, so please dress comfortably. Thanks to the generosity of Capt. Charlie Lehman, we have some new chairs, but feel free to bring your own if you wish. Capt. Carl tells me that his illustrated talk will last at least an hour and a half -- so that means we will have an intermission to keep everyone hydrated with lemonade and ice water.

The "RIVERBOAT RUMMAGE SALE" will be AFTER the program -- and there will be NO early bird viewing or sales until AFTER the program. ALL proceeds from the $5 admission charge for the program, and from the sale of books, t-shirts, trinkets and other memorabilia will go to the operating fund of the museum. I've heard grumblings about the admission charge, but some people don't seem to understand the fact that the 22 room mansion is a "money pit" and we rely solely on admissions, gift shop purchases, memberships ($15 per year) and donations to keep it going. We receive NO federal, state or local funding! Judy Patsch (aka "Steamboat Cookie Lady") will be the "purser" for admissions and cashier for the rummage sale.

Thanks and I look forward to seeing y'all on Saturday!

48 hours until River Ramblings

The 45 t-shirts plus books and other memorabilia are packed and ready to roll 423 miles along I-74 and I-65 (no worries about Delta Whoop Whoop Airline this trip). Now to bake the cookies for the post-presentation social hour.
Don't forget the gathering after Saturday dinner at the Towne Place Suites in Jeffersonville!
