It was a beautiful evening for steamboat watching. Here are some photos from the departure of the Delta Queen from St. Louis. Also included is a photo of the current state of the Lt Robert E Lee riverboat. You will notice that it is missing its smokestacks. They are laying on the deck, having been taken down for the transit from Kimmswick to St. Louis. Enjoy.

More photos
More photos. These show the DQ paddling away. As is traditional with many downriver-bound cruises, the DQ went upriver, past historic Eads Bridge (seen in the third photo). The DQ always seems to "treat" its new passengers to a trip to the fuel dock at Mullanphy Street, before heading downriver. How exciting.

Brown Water
Brown Water! Hee! Hee! Now we know where that saying came from. I'm on the Ohio River. We haven't had any good rain in some time, so the Ohio is at summer pool and lookin' good. Can you tell? I'm already having trouble concentrating at work - 33 DAYS and counting!!!
Oh, yes, we've got plenty of brown water. The muddy Missouri River takes care of that. Plus, we've just gone through a minor flood. The river gauge was at 18.9 and falling, with 30 being flood.
