Steamboating colleagues:
The mail deliver deposited today the May/June issue of JOURNEYS, the national AAA magazine which appears as a 'wrap around' issue to the local disivisions of the AAA enterprises. 'Rolling on the River: Mighty Memories of the Mississippi' Pgs. 14-16 features the now new MAJESTIC AMERICAN LINE with accent on the former DELTA QUEEN STEAMBOAT CO. vessels AMERICAN QUEEN & MISSISSIPPI QUEEN with mention of the venerable DELTA QUEEN. The text traces for the reader a history of steamboats dating to 1911 and the usual and customary references to Mark Twain. Photos of the AMERICAN QUEEN done along with pretty younger people with arms around each other staring at the shore or out of their cabin windows. I was exited to learn that the MISSISSIPPI QUEEN is 1,382 feet long.
The best touches of the article features 90 year-old Lina Walter of Ocean City, N.J., who has cruised on the MQ 31 times. She's the kind of lady I'd like to meet in person with her love of fun and warme. Many 'technical' aspects regarding the MQ's fuel, engines, Global Positioning System etc. with a fine photo of her engineer, Tadeusz Kornecki. The article also features sights and destinations to visit in Vicksburgh like Linden Plantation and the McRaven House. Natchez is noted for interest in the last two paragraphs of the article's side bar. The front cover features a photo of the bright red wheel of the DELTA QUEEN and a tow boat.
Check it out.
Cheers,

Sorry for two 'typos' which I hate. Remodelers here banging around now here behind me. The AAA article traces steamboat history to 1811 and 90 year-old Lina Walter has a "warm, friendly smile." 30 lashes at the mast.
Cheers,

Hi Dale,
We belong to CSAA (Calif. Sate Auto Assoc.-- our "flavor" of AAA) and we don't get a "wrapper" magazine, just the VIA magazine (that used to be known as "Motorland"). hmm.

Same here for the Illinois/Indiana edition.
Here you go... http://www.aaajourneys.com/readweb.asp?wid=&articleid=275&activeblock=1
I hope I did that legal, correct and all...
Perfect, Bruno!
I was asked to insert a ZIP code. So don´t forget to take one of the Mid-West if you want to see the articles.
Anyway these must be quite old ones featuring the MQ and kite flying :-).

Yes, I was curious and opened the site Bruno provided. The little window popped up to enter my local Zip Code. It opened clear as a bell to the local division of AAA here and the 'wrap around' national issue. Same article.
I'd humbly opine the article is one of those 'stock articles' written for publication and though interesting is pretty generic in nature. From time to time 'access' is via typed in Zip Code or even name and other address to sites. I often think for a moment. What do they want? Are they....gasp...investigating me? Oh, oh, doesn't the power and might of corporate America make you 'skeered' and quiver all over? The above all tongue-in-cheek. It's spring and Race Day in Louisville. Up with steamboats and good friendships.
Cheers,

I put in my CA zip code, and got nothing but the CSAA site & VIA magazine. Oh well. . . .

David, AAA's Journeys magazine is regional midwest only. For a Zip code, I used Cincinnati's...45201
Thanks, Bruno--that worked!
