I have just received the sad news that Jim Way died in late June and Fred Way III and his wife Nell died tuesday the 26th. Jim and Fred III were the sons of Capt. Fred Way, Jr. This has surely been a bad year for steamboaters and steamboats.

It has been a very sad year for Steramboats and Steamboaters Bill. I had the great honor of meeting and shaking the hand of Captain Way one time in my life when I was Mate on the DQ on a trip to the Iron City in 1979. I also have a few of his books and a Dean Cornwell print of the Betsy Ann on my living room wall that was a wedding present in 1981. Such a tragedy all thats happened this year, one can only hope somehow things will turn around.
