I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has cruised aboard the DQ since MAL announced that they were throwing in the towel (I'm sure it was plush) in their "fight" to save the DQ.
How was the atmosphere on board? Any sign of optimism on the part of the crew? Or, were they presenting their usual stiff upper lip in the face of adversity? I read one news account that stated that the crew was prohibited from discussing the issue with the press. They'd have a whale of a time keeping me quiet!
Greg, Deb and I are on the old gal two weeks from right now. From a passenger standpoint, as always, we can't wait, she is the magical boat, afterall. We are starting to pick up on the "I can't wait" syndrome.
However, I suspect the crew attitude will be the same as always. They are the professionals extrordinaire. The crew, I suspect, will be working 126% to maintain our pleasure, as always, as it is the ONLY important issue in their eyes. Deb and I have been onboard the DQ during very sensitive times and expected to see alot of potential sadness... fresh bankruptcies after 2001 and the very first DQ cruise after Katrina, literially two days after...the DQ crew still maintained the highest level of making sure us passengers were taken care of, matter of fact we didn't see any difference in quality during those ugly issues. Actually, more than that, the crew made sure we were having a good time, even though inside themselves, I suspect they were heartbroken.
Now this is my plea, my begging, my pleading to the good people at Majestic America Line. You MUST accept that the DQ crew is the finest crew anywhere and has all other cruise lines, American or Foreign crews, beat hands down. If, and Gawd I hope it doesn't come to this, the DQ is truly to become a museum piece, then I look to you as a company and as the smart business people you are, to reposition to all your other boats what is truly the FINEST CREW, WAIT AND ENTERTAINMENT STAFF IN YOUR COMPANY. Trust me, your other two Mississippi boats will HUGELY benefit from the wisdom and loving care these professionals could bring to the table. Of course I'm extremely biased, and yes we have not gotten to know the crews on the your other boats which is very unfair, but Deb and I always have such, SUCH a great time on the DQ, she seems to surprise us with more pleasure each time we cruise. Trust me Majestic, the DQ crew is VERY ,VERY good. And we're not bragging but we've cruised a bit on your boats, maybe we qualify a little to know...
