Steamboaters in Maine

It's good to read Judy's report of the Spirit of Peoria trip! Just because steamboats aren't running at the moment doesn't mean those who love the river or boat travel must necessarily be idle. On Friday close to 100 steamboaters flew into Portland, Maine and traveled by bus up to Bangor yesterday to board the American Star for a seven night Maine Coast and Harbors cruise. This reunion was arranged by Phyllis Dale, and how fun it was to see so many familiar faces.

Diane and I were honored to be Phyllis' guests for dinner on board and then the show presented by Dave Para and Cathy Barton, longtime Delta Queen guest performers. Despite the copious rain provided by TS Danny, spirits weren't dampened in the least.

Today the skies are clearing and the Star sets sail down the beautiful Penobscot River for Bucksport this afternoon. Phyllis has also asked me to perform for the gang on the last night of the trip, so we're looking forward to seeing everyone yet again. Never thought I'd see the day when so many Delta Queen passengers would come up to my neck of the woods!

Long live the spirit of steamboatin' !
