Since Franz has duly noted that today marks the 38th anniversary of the JULIA BELLE SWAIN's April 9, 1971 departure on her delivery trip from Dubuque as a brand new steamboat, here are a view vintage views of the snazzy little sternwheeler which, sadly, will not be in operation this year. Here's hoping that better times are ahead for the JBS!

Thanks, Keith, for your good posting on the JBS. Capt. Roddy Hammett always referred to her as the "pocket packet." Attached are two views that provide a wistful look back at what I hope will not be the last we see of her under steam. The first view was taken on launch day, November 12, 1970, with the crew of Dubuque Boat and Boiler; and the second shows her in September 2007 leaving Dubuque for Prairie du Chien and La Crosse.
