This is confusing - how can you provide the Great American Steamboat Cruise when all your vessels are diesel???

Seems to me they are 'muddying the waters' vs. GASCo.......

Creative marketing. Welcome to the NFL. And I also saw a release by them that emphasized how fast the QOM is in comparison to the American Queen, which they referred to by name. Seems a bit desperate to me. And I fear that's not the way to go. The more boats on the river the better. It will be a sign of an increasingly healthier business. From what I can see the GASC and the ACL products are different and ACL should be celebrating the differences rather than trying to one-up the AQ. There's plenty of brown water to share out there. Can't we all just get along? :O)
Uniqueness often put down
Yes, it appears the QoM and AQ will be quite different experiences and that this would be good. Unfortunately in recent years the last few overnight steamboat companies refused to promote the uniqueness of their boats and instead tried to make them 'just like' the blue water behemoths - and we saw how that came out! That is what makes the Great American Steamboat Co. (the one with the real steamboat) so refreshing and desirable - their former DQ people recognized what they had and are presenting us with a river steamboating experience, not a Carnival cruise or jetboat trip. They have certainly pointed out the uniqueness of the experience and I think it would be difficult for a new passenger to mistakenly think they're going the Carnival route. The Great American Steamboat Co. (the one with the real steamboat) knows their product, are promoting it well, and are targeting a clientele which should appreciate such an experience. As John Waggoner said at the Howard, they weren't concerned about competition - they knew they had a good product and were proud to present it.
My guess is that ACL is buying up those phrases so GASC can't use them in their marketing. IMHO for ACL to use any phrase that mentions the product that they deliver as being a steamboat trip is false advertising.
