...or yesterday and today, depending on when you are reading this. July 31, 1935 was the birthday of Gordon Greene II, son of Tom and Letha. One day later that same year, August 1, Clarke Campbell Hawley was born. Seems to be a popular time for steamboating birthdays - on the NATCHEZ we had 3 Aug. 1 celebrants: Doc, Mate Bobby Heyn, and cornetist Eddie Bayard. Of course, Aug. 4 is the bday of the Big E, Capt. Wagner. So, fire departments, be alert for the multitude of burning candles!!!

Close the shipyard to do what? Why not OPEN the shipyard to visitors so we all may give homage to "this illustrious crew?" 😉 Is your rowboat YELLOW STAR ready to ferry passengers across the Ohio River to Rabbit Hash?

Crew is in no shape to open the yard.... to much consumption of birthday cake and punch. ;{) . Boat's been renamed: FLYING FISH II.

Race!

Sam: Activity here at the shipyard has fell 'way off...flag at haff-staff for the DELTA QUEEN and closure due to the B/D celebrations etc. Some say that the flagg is at haff-staff cause you can't get Moose Brand limberger here any more...likely the Big E's favorite.

The boys settin' around opined that now as you've got your yaller yawl back and aptly named Flyin' Fish II, that it is likely all tuned up to scoot acrost the water under the impulse of them there rowin' sticks of yourn. The steamer MISSIE has lost a number of heats up in the Licking River with them girls in them racin' sculls or what ever they're called. Wondered if you'd be up for a race w/ MISSIE? Me and Tom done been a-workin' on her and think we can give you a good race...say down around Big Bone Island and back to the Big Bone Boat Dock. Or, say, around Twelve Mile Island during Jim's picnic caper come August 26...What say?? Now, it that is tooooo far fer you...what do you propose?? Nothin' like a good race to get the liver to curl! You could row down to Twelve Mile Island as a warm-up and we wouldn't protest. Cap'n Walnut.
