The MOR/RRR have joined forces to put a group together to ride the TWILIGHT Sun/Mon Aug. 14-15. The price per person is $319 ($359 single) and the time to submit the fare is approaching. This is a relaxing 2 day getaway at an affordable price, and I would suggest especially to anyone who hasn't experienced the beautiful Upper Mississippi River to consider it. The price covers everything from the time you board at 8:30AM Sunday to debarkation about 6:30 PM Monday: cruise, food, entertainment, hotel room at the Grand Harbor, admission to the Dubuque National Rivers Museum, and parking right on the levee by the boat in LeClaire. Special hotel rates are available at the 3 LeClaire motels: Super 8, Comfort Inn, and Holiday Inn Express. It couldn't be more convenient! LeClaire is the home of the American Pickers, of the Rapids pilots, and a new distillery which gives tours. This is in addition to the Buffalo Bill Museum and LONE STAR, which are adjacent to the TWILIGHT landing. You could spend another day in LeClaire easily. Also, on the Saturday night preceding the cruise I will be hosting a Planters Punch Open House here at my 'museum'. MOR members should send their checks to Frank Prudent. Anyone else please send to me, Judy Patsch, by June 29. For further information or to let me know you are planning to join us, please email me at : [email protected] ( RRR is the Rambling River Rats, which is ANYONE who enjoys riding the rivers!)

Twilight cruise aug. 14 - 15
Couldn't get the title to be capitalized last time(or this time!). Those pictures were taken yesterday in Bellevue Iowa as the TWILIGHT arrived at Lock 12. Notice the beautiful scenery! The reason for my trip up there was to greet the RRR who were aboard this trip, after completing their 3 day Starved Rock Illinois River trip on the SPIRIT OF PEORIA. It was an easy I-74 drive of less than 2 hours from Peoria to LeClaire. I joined them for dinner at Sneaky Pete's Wednesday night, where famed marine artist Michael Blaser also embellished the group. In these shots JoAnn Schoen is giving 'the wave', the others on are the boiler deck bow, and the buildings are just below the lock. These are old Diamond Jo Line warehouses from the late 1800s-early 1900s. The pilothouse narration on the TWILIGHT is not obtrusive, but gives very salient points of river history and navigation.

TWILIGHT glides upriver
And finally, shots of the TWILIGHT above Lock 12 on her final leg of the 86 mile trip heading toward Dubuque. I should mention that LeClaire is just off I-80, 15 miles northeast of the QuadCities, a very accessible town for drivers. The TWILIGHT is diesel, designed and built by Capt. Dennis Trone and now capably owned and operated by the Stiers, who were part of Denny's crew for years and who are carrying on his fine tradition of hospitality, quality, reliability, and punctuality.

Yes, a few of us Rambling River Rats gathered this week for a wonderful week on the river. I actually took in four boats if you count the canal boat ride. The TWILIGHT is a wonderful little boat, as Judy says. The crew does a great job and loves making the RRR's feel special. Be sure to sign up promptly.
