Anybody know how ACL is doing with restoration of the Washington calliope for the Queen of the Mississippi ?
*RE: WASHINGTON calliope for ACL*
No, Matt, I've not heard much of late. I will be seeing my ACL contact before long at our monthly country club luncheon and will press the question diplomatically. As posted previously, ACL execs contacted me well over a year ago regarding the calliope thinking I owned it. I sent off all I knew and this has been mentioned on .org since then. Apparently ACL did pass the question of firing the boiler with propane. At times, when you ask a simple question, you get far more than you expected. Others may know far more.

I've just talked to ACL here in Berlin, Germany, on the ITB travel trade show and to my understanding the calliope will be installed on the Queen of the Mississippi within the next few months and will be up and running in summer 2013.
*RE: WASHINGTON calliope installing*
Hi, Franz & steamboating colleagues:
At my monthly luncheon today I met/talked with somebody close to the operation of ACL's new QUEEN OF THE MISSISSIPPI. News that she is 'selling' to passengers an interesting tid bit. As stated, the installation of the WASHINGTON calliope, as mentioned here, slated for summer. The aspects of allowing her calliope boiler to be fired with propane still under study with regulations/safety factors due to be announced. If not steam, then compressed air. That's all I know at this point.

Travis says it cannot play properly on air and must have steam.
*Steam is always better*
Hi, Matt,
I'll go with the experience Travis has. No surprise and steam always better than air. Next question is if they get the proper clearance/authority to move ahead with the propane to fire the boiler to make the calliope sing. Again, that's all I know at this point.
