Well, as y'all know I am not happy about the Navy Blue paint job on the Boiler deck of the AQ. The Bukk Rails was enough! LOL. What can be done to persuade MAL to make her pretty and WHITE Agian? We have too many "STAR LINE" Dinner Bucket Boats on the ohio and Mississippi, and Tennesse Rivers. Thanks, Allen Dale. P.S. travis... hope you or someone wins the lottery! We might be able to fulfill our dremas of eventually owning the company.!LOL
Allen, I tried my best. I think my exact quote on the passenger comment card two weeks ago was:
Deep six the guy with the bucket of blue paint. Put the white back up and hopefully you were smart enough to hold onto the gold rosettes, get them back up too. Isn't blue bad luck on a steamboat? She looks awful!
True story: There is a frequent passenger of the DQ/MQ/AQ that was eating lunch on the AQ late this spring with other, un-before introduced, passengers at the table. The conversation came up about the infamous blue paint and one of the passengers asked L., who had cruised many times before on the AQ, what he thought of the new paint scheme. And I quote: "It makes her look like a French Whorehouse!" The passenger who asked got all red in the face and changed the subject. L. thought the he may have stepped over the bounds of decency in conversations with strangers. Make a long story short, L. later found out that the lady was the decision maker with MAL who had picked and designed the royal blue color scheme.
Has everybody seen what the company is proposing for the DQ splashboard? You got it, the same royal blue and I'm hoping that because it may be her last year and/or the company is short of funds, they may change their minds. Paddlewheel's still red, though.
Clueless MAL decision makers
I bet this "MAL decision maker" has no idea what a steamboat looks like, or should look like. Maybe she's related to the original "designer" of the MQ. While the MAL beauty consultants might think that the blue is cute or flattering, in reality it is awful on these boats. Blue gingerbread features and a big blue wall? C'mon! A blue splashboard on the DQ? Terrible! I'm still hating the skinny smokestack, and that's a few years old already. What's next, neon on the paddlewheel, like the phony paddlewheel features on river casinos? Or, maybe an all blue MQ? Maybe that's the secret to the renovations of the boat. Ah, the "MBMQ" (Midnight Blue Mississippi Queen).
All I can say is "way to go passengers!" Comment cards are one thing, but direct comments to the person(s) responsible is even stronger, and rather rare. When Bruce N, from then-owner DNC, was a frequent steamboats.org visitor a few years ago, that was an opportunity to "ask the tough questions", as well.
