The Str. American Queen has been..........................

Greetings From New Orleans ,
Its my understanding that the Str. American Queen has been moved down to a small river community below New Olreans , on the East Bank ( the left decending shore ) known as Violet , La.. Like the future of the other two boats her future is certainly unknown as well but hopfully someone will come through for her as well .

Violet LA

MARAD has fleeted a couple of their Ready Reserve ships at Violet, I presume they are still there. If this is so, then presumably the AQ has been turned over to MARAD and is under their watchful eye - not wanting their property damaged or diminished in value. Violet has also been the storage place for vessels waiting to go to India to be scrapped - one such being the BERMUDA STAR, about which we recently posted. Let's hope the AQ is in the MARAD fleet in Violet.

According to my sources, the AQ was turned over to MARAD on Thursday.

The Str. American Queen Has Returned To................

Greetings From New Orleans ,
I have it on good authority that the Str. American Queen has been officially given over to MARAD and that she has returned to the Julia St. Wharf for an indefinate period of time . The AQ's crew has all been removed except for a few engineers and some security but for the most part she is also been mothballed . I would assume that at some point and time she will be auctioned off and hopfully the new owner will do a better job of maintaining and operating the boat better than her former owners . Time will tell .

AQ at Riverwalk

Just talked to Capt. Don of the NATCHEZ. If you've tried the Port Authority (Julia St.) webcam lately, you know it's out of commission. The Bridge Cam doesn't show the AQ like it did when she first arrived with the DQ a couple of weeks back. The AQ is indeed at Riverwalk, but her smokestacks are down, which is why she's not showing up on the bridge webcam. She's probably also down a bit, nearer Poydras than Julia, to allow room for the cruise ships. There was one in today, a Norwegian cruise line, which will be in port every week throughout the winter. There is space for two ships there, as long as the AQ is closer to Poydras. So for now, the AQ is still in the NOLA harbor, just downriver and on the opposite bank from her sister boats at Perry St.
