A long and two shorts of the whistle in loving memory of Capt. Fred Way (1901-1992) who would observe his 112th birthday today.
Revered by MANY of us who love the river and riverboats, Capt. Fred was truly "The Pope of Steamboating"! He's been gone from our sight since 1992, but his legacy lives on through all those whose lives he touched with his kind and gentle spirit -- as well as those who just know of him through his wonderful books, and the pages of the S&D REFLECTOR from its inception in 1964 until 1992.
