Hank, where did you find the drawing of the Strader? And what kind of drawing is it? Artists sketch, line drawing, or what? The Strader had low pressure engines and the boilers were probably larger and supplied gobs of steam at from 35 to 50 psi. Im not sure if they were fore or aft fired. She was not quite the typical Western Rivers design, having the pilothouse forward of the stacks, but still a beautiful boat.
I'm not sure where I found it. I copied it off the net somewhere and have it in my screensaver collection. It's a fully rendered drawing or perhaps a painting although it's in sepia tones rather than color. Since I'm not sure where I got it, or who the image actually belongs to, I'm reluctant to try to post it. It is a view from the side and slightly ahead and the front of the boilers are visible, though no fireboxes show. The chimneys are at the aft end of the boilers, as you noted, behind the pilot house. It showns her before she got new boilers and had the stacks moved into the normal location forward. I agree that she was not the "standard" steamer, but she was a beauty. I like the circular pilot house. and the vented paddle boxes.
