I an new to this steamboat forem.
I wanted to post 2 pictures of a great steamboat artifact. The bell from the steamboat "elvira" the bell is 34 inches across the mouth. Was cast by a. Fulton.

The "elvira" was built in 1851 and owned and captained by james dozier of saint louis. She ran the missouri till 1863 when she hit a snag and was lost

the bell has been in my back yard for close to 10 years.4757.jpg4758.jpg

Ryan welcome aboard. I sure wish that bell was in my yard. How did you acquire it? Here are some facts you might find of interest. The A. Fulton Bell & Brass foundry was founded by Andrew Fulton in 1832 at 70 Second St. in Pittsburgh. They also made copper & brass steam fittings and steam guages.
The Ohio River Museum at Marietta has several Fulton bells. The towboat Andy Fulton at Louisville was named for Mr. Fulton.

ELVIRA 1851

I bought the bell from a man in missouri who had it on his farm. It has come along way from its home as i live on cape cod. I did gather some information on the elvira and james dozier who owned a number of boats. She evidently was very popular and probably a very fine vessel.
