Anyone know anything about the sternwheel amusement park boats at the short lived Freedomland? I saw some Youtube videos, and they appeared to have at least dummy pitman rods.

I don't know anything about the Freedomland sternwheeler, but it reminds me a lot of the Disney boats. Looks like it also ran on a track. Here is a link to a Freedomland promotional video on youtube. I'd guess this is circa 1964: YouTube - Freedomland a Defunct Amusement Park in the Bronx

They start talking about the sternwheeler at about 2:58 into the video.

Mat,
Thanks for that link. I read somwhere on the web site that it is a dockside attraction, so I guess they don't do passenger cruises. I didn't see any recent photos of it underway, or any close-ups of the paddlewheel. The boat has nice features. Were there 2 boats at Freedomland?

Interesting stuff. Which brings me a question.

Sunday I drove into Baltimore to hang out at Harbor Place. I took some back streets to get there, so I could avoid the McKinley Tunnel. Just before I took a left on Boston Street to go downtown I spotted two steamboat looking stacks above some buildings along the water. Sure enough, it was a boat. No paddlewheel, but definitely a river boat and it looked idle.

Any clues?

Paul
