The sternwheel towboat J.A. Cresap was built in 1923 at the Mozena Brothers Boatyard in Clarington, OH, and is the last surviving vessel built by the firm. She is widely traveled and has carried several names in her life, currently known as the Louise and resting in Guttenberg, IA.
On Google Earth, I had recently noticed that she no longer occupies her typical mooring spot. Knowing the boats age and that she is of wood construction, I was naturally concerned that she had seemed to disappear. However, I found a photo of the venerable vessel resting on the shore, up on wooden blocks.
There was a thread on the forum from 2013, where I read that Capt. Gary Frommelt is the current steward of the boat, and has been working on the vessels restoration.
Does anyone in the "know" know how the venerable old towboat is doing, or what the long term goals are? Has progress been made on her restoration, and are there any recent photos of the vessel in her current high - and - dry state?
In advance, thank you to all who can help.
