How many days can one expect to steam from New Orleans to St. Louis?
Make allowances for taking on more fuel and provisions, if necessary.
How long from St. Louis back to NO?

Stephen, are we talking about an old steamboat, a towboat, the AMERICAN QUEEN? It is 1,035 miles by river today. If you head out and make average 5.5 mph (very do-able), 7.8 days, or figure roughly 8 days. Cahnnel delays should be minimal, and your speed will likely be more than 5.5, so any delays are made up for with the faster speed (roughly 6 mph, better in spots, depending on your pilots).
Is this a passenger boat? Stopping for shore stops to give tours, etc.? Fuel should not be a problem if you're loaded at departure time. Ditto for groceries. If fuel is needed, fueling can be accomplished underway, if need be. if you stop for fuel, you'd likely only have to do it once; allow 2 or 3 hours. Even if you do that, .2 days is only about 5 hours, so you're still talking 8 days. Add your time for shore stops if wanted/needed. Groceries, fuel and garbage can be taken care of while making a pax shore stop, no extra time lost. If this is a towboat or a boat making a hard push in transit just to move it there, figure 8 days, period.
St. Louis to NOLA would take about 4 to 4.5 days. 10 mph is very do-able, 14 if you push it.

Wow. 1035 miles!
I had no idea it was that much. I am thinking any steamer like Delta Queen, American Queen, the now defunct Admiral and President. Thank You for
your answer.
What kind o' hp is the American Queen capable of?
I gotta tell you I am surprised that a towboat pushing a load can do it in
8 days, but I guess when you figure it is 24 hours per day I guess that makes
sense.......
