Seatrade Communications Ltd. reported today that Christopher Kyte and Jeff Krida have been replaced in their management positions at American Queen Steamboat Co. by Ted Sykes as President and COO. John Waggoner will be assuming extra duties with the company. Krida and Kyte will continue to maintain a financial interest in the company. Sykes is reputed to be a 20 year cruise industry veteran with background in sales, marketing and finance.
steamboats.org is reporting this, too 😉
*Sykes now 'IN' with AQ CO.*
Steamboating colleagues:
Thanks to Frank Prudent for his ever alert eye and 'heads up' on the above. Confirms rumors I'd heard here via those pesky business B=Mails.
Companies, by nature, go through stages of development with periodic readjustments, restudy of plans, goals. A continual 'work in progress' if you will. I wish Messrs. Sykes, Waggoner, Krida and Kyte all the best for the coming steamboat cruise season. Time will tell.
Not 'pure steamboats' as such, but a number of big blue water cruise lines facing dilemmas with increasing tension now between Argentina and Great Britain over the Falkland Islands. Huge off-shore oil deposits part of the issue along with nationalism. Ships, passengers being delayed, harrassed in ports with some cruise lines stating, "Possibly more days at sea" if South American ports and the Falklands are scratched on itineraries. As they say, "Everything is politics--and money." Well, what do I know?
