A website that will be of interest to most steamboat buffs and buffettes is that of Lee Line Steamers | Riverboat History | Telling the history of the Lee Line Steamboat Line 1862 to 1926 with an occasional Memphis item(s) of interest which may be (or not) politically incorrect today.. Maintained by Jim Lee, a descendant of those who operated the famous Lee Line, the site is loaded with interesting information, fascinating photographs and images of Lee Line memorabilia.

Take a look!

*RE: LEE LINE link *& history*

Hi, Keith & Steamboating colleagues:
Thanks for reinforcing the link to the famed LEE LINE. I'd previously gotten hints of this fine site. I well remember one of the Lee family attending an S&D of Pioneer Rivermen meeting in Marietta some year back but, honestly, can't recall now if it was Jim Lee or not. The famed LEE LINE appears here in Cincinnati steamboat history down until the very last days. One fine company operating great boats. The big ice of 1904 photo I have shows one of the LEE boats shoved up on the Public Landing. All worked out in time and she slid back in the water when the ice went out. Ole' Commodore Fred Laidley pretty much had the final say with the Cincinnati-Memphis connection with the LEE LINE here and it earned him no small amount of criticism from the 'boys on the landing' here. Thanks again.

It was George Gunther Lee who attended S&D meetings in the 1980's. Jim Lee is his twin brother. I first met George in 1982, when he came to Louisville to ride the Str. NATCHEZ in the Great Steamboat Race.
