Are their any oil paintings involving the MQ on the river? I am looking for a nice one to hang over a couch.

It gave me great joy when I was Riverlorian on the DQ to show Captain Lexie's wonderful mural in the Orleans Room. I would point out Steamboat Willie in the Pilothouse, too! It just killed me that it was covered up. Sometimes a crew member would be wandering through during the tour, and would not know it was there! I always invited crew to come on any tour I offered, or to see me for a personal tour any time. What a treasure the DQ is--and what a multi-talented crew she had!

Capt. Lexie's work is phenominal...and her ability to work in strained situations even more of a talent. She painted the stars and stripes on the BOW of the DELTA QUEEN for the Bicentennial (1976 for the youngsters!) from a johnboat IN the water! That takes talent and a steady hand of gargantuan proportions! I have always been a great fan of her work!

Thanks for your references. I have had a lot of fun with that mural in the Orleans Room through the years. Nice to know someone else is too.

The painting on the bow was in a place that was damaged in a collision with a ship. During layup in was repaired with new steel. I rescued a piece of the damaged steel from a dumpster and it still had the painting of the flag on it. I kept it for years and then it mysteriously disappeared along with a portion of the fwd cabin bulkhead that I also rescued from a shipyard dumpster. I'll always wonder what happened to these sacred artifacts.

Disposition of relics

Scrapmen, I'll bet. I remember that Gary Frommelt had a capstan taken from his yard, presumably for the scrap value. I have that piece of DQ guard in my fenced in backyard, out of sight of junksters. A section of NATCHEZ railing and lollipops also repose there.

Sevaral are tow Capts./pilots, one NOBRA Pilot, a tug boat engineer, several bartenders, several COE pilots or mates, some have moved to Colorado, a Capt.and Mate on the Grand Vic.
I think for both our safety and the general public, we should be kept in a fenced area. :-), :-0.

Old Relices 2

Several are Towboat Capts./Pilots, a couple of COE Pilots/Mates, 1 NOBRA Pilot, a tug boat engineer, several are Bartenders, a Capt. and Mate on the Grand Vic, some have moved to Colorado, and I'm sure many others scattered along the river banks and around the country.
I feel for both their protection, and the gereral publics, they should also be kept in a fenced in area.
