I recently acquired what I believe is a nearly complete set of working blueprints that were used during the construction of the MQ, complete with written notes and changes on a number of pages.

In all there are 300+ drawings with everything from the original paddlewheel to the boarding stage to the plans to launch the hull and water test it. I included a couple sample pictures and they are available if anyone wants to see them.

The long term goal is to preserve them somehow for history purposes. If anyone has ideas or suggestions don't hesitate.8755.jpg8756.jpg8757.jpg

*RE: MQ blueprints*
Hi, George & Steamboating colleagues:
Interesting, very interesting are your MQ blueprints. That miserable cold, rainy day when the MQ was cut free, launched at JEFFBOAT, a number of us were shown roll after roll of her prints in the office. Look very familiar and good thing you have them for preservation.

Some years back Kenny Howe gave me some sheets of the MQ's steam engines, mounting etc. These copies of the originals, naturally. I have another small set of plans drawn up for the GREENE LINE by, I 'think,' Bill Muster showing the 'vision' for tearing the DELTA QUEEN down to her hull, rebuilding anew in case the boat didn't get her exemption. Mrs. Letha Greene wrote to me at my military navy base saying, "Some vision, don't you think? In some ways not too much different that the later evolution of the then new MQ. I'll have to dig them out, dust them all off. I've been dragging my feet for years here not bothering to master the art of posting directly to Steamboats.org. This on my 'to do' list. Thanks for sharing.

George,
If you want to preserve those prints have them copied by the xerographic process. This produces black line on white paper which will not fade over time. The prints you show look like blue line prints which will indeed fade, especially with excess exposure to bright light or sunlight.
Any good reprographic company should be able to do this. If you are in the Cincinnati area I would recommend American Reprographic Co ( ARC) on Sharon Road.

Of course, there are those of us who have tried to construct a set of external plans for years, for the purpose of building models. I, for one, would love to get ahold of the external views for that purpose!
