Hello again, I'm attaching a photo of the Walter Jr. Steamboat/Towboat.
If again one has anymore information about this boat, as in photography, which rivers she ran, Captain's, who owned her.
The young toddler is my grandfather Horace Edgar Speck Jr. the man kneeling down, might be my his father, Horace Edgar Speck Sr. or the Captain of the Walter Jr.
Any information, please email me at

Mystery Steamboats
I'm attaching 1 photo of a steamboat/towboat that I came across in my grandfather Horace Edgar Speck Jr.'s belongings.
Nothing is written on the back of it. I've often wondered
if this boat wasn't under the command of my Great-Grandfather Horace Edgar Speck Sr. or my Great-Great-Grandfather James Michael Speck.
If anyone can identify these this steamboat/towboat with any information about which river she ran, who owned her, who was her Master's please email me at

Daniel: Mebbe I'm way behind. THere are many on this board who know MUCH more than I about towboats. But a look in Way's Towboat Directory shows entry T1668 M. C. Clay. Stw tb wh 1923-1928? Originally built 1901 at Evansville, IN 85.1x22.1x3.9. Owned by Kentucky Rock and Asphalt Co. and towing on Green River. Sold to Capt. Walter G. Hougland in August, 1925. Capt. Horace Speck was master in 1928.
T0738 EMMA Stw tb wh 1901-1923. b. Evansville, IN 85.1x22.1x3.9. A Green River fixture. In 1922 was towing for Kentucky Rock and Asphalt Co. with Capt James Wallace, master; towing coal out of Bowling Green from Highview and Martin mines. Had been renamed M. C. CLAY by 1924. Cap't Walnut
I seem to remember that the ALICE BROWN and HARRY BROWN had an anchor symbol swung between her stacks and that was the trade mark of the W. H. Brown & Sons, in Pittsburgh. I'm sure many another boat used that symbol too...
