No Slumbering on the Cumberland

Seems like trying to remember a dream thinking about those days (28, 29, & 30 December) at Hartford Place on the bluff above the Cumberland River, but they were real, and always three exciting days of fun, food, friendship, and music. The rules were simple: "Bring no presents, but if you play a musical instrument, bring it."

Today is the beginning of Hartford Week; a time to remember John and Marie. Put on a tape, CD, or old vinyl record and dream. Or if you don't have any, get on-line and order yourself some and enjoy.

I have the "Me Oh My, How the Time Does Fly" CD playing in my office. Of course, I've always been partial to "Miss Ferris", which John wrote in 1977 for our patron saint of steamboat and river history! A long whistle salute to John and Marie, who are greatly missed and fondly remembered.1275.jpg

70th Birthday

Born John Cowan Harford in New York on December 30, 1937, John grew up in St. Louis. He was a descendent of Patrick Henry and cousin of Tennessee Williams. His grandfather was a founder of the Missouri Bar Association and his father was a prominent doctor.

At an early age, John fell in love with two things: music and the Mississippi River. These were passions that would last his lifetime, and their pursuit would be his life’s passage.

Wish we had our time again...
